I am NOT a cocktail girl. I could think of a lot of cocktails but really wanting to make one into a dessert wasn’t whipping me into a frenzy of excitement ( where I once again probably break the Top Chef Just Desserts rules). I’m a beer girl through and through. One does not throw back a Cosmo or Mojito while watching hockey…it’s against nature. After a week of pouring though cookbooks, I even have one dedicated to Booze, I ended up saying screw it and went with what I love. Beer, a black and tan of sorts to be exact. There are lots of stout cakes out there. Almost all of them are chocolate stout cakes that come out for St. Patrick’s Day. I really loved the idea of the Gingerbread Stout Cake I saw on Epicurious awhile back that then showed up on Deb’s site. That gave me the black of the black and tan but I needed the tan. Turtle Caramel Corn…or as I like to call it, revenge on my dentist
I made caramel corn to rebel against my dentist. He’s annoying me as he is making me live out a Seinfeld episode. Maybe you saw it? The one where George goes to break up with a girl and she refuses to let him. Ironically I had that happen in my dating life. I broke up with a guy four times and each time he would say we weren’t broken up. He would tell me I’m not thinking clearly, I must be getting sick. That when I felt better we would discuss it then. This went on for like two weeks. So finally I made one of my hockey player friends, who just happened to look like a bouncer, kindly let him know I wasn’t dating him. Anyway, what does this have to do with the dentist? I have TMJ. I’m a clincher, at night apparently. So my dentist tells me that we are going to do a bite adjustment, which they did. Candy Corn Ice Cream…yep, I went there
Fall is officially here and it’s October. How is it October? Pumpkins, colored leaves, HOCKEY, crisp air, large bags of individual sized candy…it’s all good. And of course, candy corn. I personally have a love/hate relationship with candy corn. I love it. But then I eat so much of it I get sick. And even when I get to the point of where I feel like a am going to throw up, I still keep eating it. I do this about three times and then I am done for the year for eating candy corn. I’m not sure how this idea came to me. I was originally going to use Circus Peanuts and make an ice cream for my Penny Candy challenge but I figured given the time of year and the large bag of candy corn already sitting on my counter, I would do candy corn. So yes, I am counting this as my Top Chef Just Desserts Penny Candy challenge. I don’t care if it’s not really penny candy.
