When I taught middle school, above my desk was a sign that read “Life is ten percent of what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”. Truer words could not be spoken. Far too often people feel victimized about what has been done to them. My friends C and T got stuck once in Omaha due to weather. They were supposed to be getting on to a connecting flight to Florida to go on a cruise. T (the wife) freaked out. Calling and having what C described as a melt down and tantrum because the world was against her. Well, Mother Nature might have been but not the world. C on the other hand told T this was an opportunity to explore a place they had never been to. C had once been offered a job in Omaha and turned it down, always wondering if he should have taken it or not. After spending the day there, he was quite happy in his decision to not move there. But without the opportunity he never would have known. They caught a plane the next day, and then another plane that flew them to the … [Read more...]
Starbucks Natural Fusions Brunch…
A couple weeks before Mother’s Day Starbucks contacted me and asked if I would be willing to host a brunch that day and serve their new Starbucks Natural Fusions coffees. I told them that sounds nice and all but that my mom lives nowhere near me so that couldn’t happen. They said they understood but I said, I do host Book Club in a couple of weeks, maybe we could do that and they liked that idea. So Starbucks sent me a box of the coffee in all three flavors: vanilla, cinnamon, and caramel and a gift card to buy some groceries. My original menu I planned went out the window when my cyst burst, but I still wanted to make one complicated thing, croissants. I made a lot of easier things on the blog now I wanted to see if I could still make croissants. I can…and then promptly remember why I never do as they take way too long. I originally was going to use the coffee in a lot of the dishes, but then remember that instant coffee is what I use mostly. I did use it in … [Read more...]
Spending what you don’t have…
I have a couple of people in my life I would like to run my hand across their face and slap some sense into them (I’m sure you do as well). But right now I mostly want to slap the people I know who are living above their means but then are complaining all the time that they don’t have the money to cover things…you know like rent. Even though as a general rule I don’t like summer and hot weather, I really don’t want it right now. Know why? I don’t have any shorts that fit. All the ones from last summer are a size smaller. Didn’t know I would be back on prednisone this last year and those are the breaks. Go buy some right? Don’t have anything in the budget to do that. Then my friends pipe in with just get a couple cheap pairs at Old Navy. Um, what part of not in budget do you not get? Even if they are $15 a pop, and I buy two pair, that’s $30…that I don’t have. Stop justify buying stuff because it was on sale. For the record last year’s swimsuit cost me … [Read more...]
Furbaby Friday…Sick Helper…
My dog is the best dog when it comes to being sick. Me or her. Number one she has tummy issues always has, and has learned throw up on linoleum or tile instead of carpet. Which let me tell you is immensely helpful. But what she is also great with is just lying there being a good snuggle pup. When I am truly down and out like I have been all week she truly shines. When I am on the couch she lays there with her head on my leg. If I am in bed she sleeps on the pillow next to me. If I get a fever, she will move so she doesn’t get too hot, but will slide over but not very far out of her watchful eye. She doesn’t get up to drink water, because she doesn’t want to disturb me, and she doesn’t ask to go the bathroom (no she just doesn’t go find a place). Take yesterday for example, she went to the restroom when my roommate woke up and he took her out at 5:30am. My friend T didn’t come over and let her out until 3:30pm. Which was no problem whatsoever. The key is just not to ask … [Read more...]
