To the pain…

Lately I have had a few friends with teenagers wanting to kill them. I usually advise not to kill them, but to simply injure them instead. Far less jail time, and hey, you never know your kid might grow up into someone you eventually can tolerate. If you are insisting on the hurting your teenager route, might I suggest that you turn to the government to help. Idea number one is to promise your child a trip to wherever they have wanted to go (within reason of course) then before you get on through TSA, be sure to plant something on your child. Point out that you fear said teenager has something on them. They get a roughing up and you miss your flight. Double bonus for you. Or idea number two, turn in your teenager as a terrorist. He’ll get a little talking to that might be what you are looking for. When they find out he is not and come after you, claim you thought Farmville was code for something else. Playing dumb is the way to go. :P I of course recommend neither of those … [Read more...]

In cars with strangers….

I am sad to report that though I will be going on living in the Seattle area for almost 7 years I have not been to a lot of places around here. People are often in shock when they mention a place and I have #1 never heard of it, and therefore #2 never been. This happened just the other day. While at a friend’s party I made a couple new acquaintances and they were in awe that I had never been to a local beach that is super popular around here. The next thing you know they are trying to convince me to go with them to the beach. They weren’t offering me candy so I figured they were probably safe. :) But I told them no as my dog was more than wanting her dinner as it was past due and probably wanted to go out as well. They reluctantly said okay only to start texting me shortly after I got home that I should come out, come out, come out! So I asked if I could bring the dog since I had been gone most of the day and they agreed. As luck would have it we arrived at the beach just in … [Read more...]

That just happened…

So I made salted caramel ice cream. I put it on top of a vanilla bean cake which is a recipe I will share this weekend. Then I got distracted (shiny squirrel) only to come back later and notice that I left my ice cream out and it melted. I don’t like the texture of melted ice cream refrozen so I knew I wouldn’t be freezing it again. Well crap I thought. And then I thought again. I thought what if I just let it come to room temperature and then make it into frosting? So that’s what I did. If you are going to give this a go you can use any ice cream I suspect, but I would steer clear of any overly sweet ice creams to start with as you will be adding more sugar to make frosting. While I have been loving my new ice cream book, I thought I would go back to my first ice cream book that I had much success with, The Perfect Scoop. I chose to make a salted caramel ice cream because while I have enjoyed it elsewhere I never have made it at home. This works great because it is not too … [Read more...]

Fur Baby Fridays: Fun with power tools…

Dear Crazy Cocker Spaniel, You with your big brown innocent eyes, soft fur, and breath that smells like you have licked every living things butt for the last 7 days; YOU need to stop trying to kill me. Don’t think I didn’t notice you trying to steal that power saw the other day. And when I caught you, you just flashed me the get out of jail free eyes. But I know better. Just this morning you tried to off me by cutting in front of me as we walked down the stairs to go to the rest room. Trying to break free? I’ve seen you in the real world, you wouldn’t last a minute. You are afraid of card board boxes and shower curtains for goodness sakes. And fans. And bags. You see where I am going with this. So stop trying to trip me when I am carrying things, they could fall on you and then who is the joke on? Technically still me since I would have to take you to the vet and hand over no doubt hundreds of dollars. If you do kill me you will have access to all the food in the … [Read more...]
