Somethings are best not known…

I won’t make dump cake. I won’t make my mom’s fried rice. I try not to make homemade caramels or toffee and I sparingly make bread pudding. Why because I will eat it all. I held off for years at making soft pretzels since I feared those would just be added to the list of things to not make at home or I will have to invest in Pajama Jeans. That was a good fear to have. :) I went to trusted Alton Brown when I decided I wanted to make soft pretzels for some soup I was making. I must say that I have never really had anything fail by him as long as I follow step by step so I did just that. Other than not putting salt on I followed it to a T. Just as I suspected these will have to go on the do not make at home list. Or else I will just sit there and go into a carb coma. It will be a nice way to go….but still. :P Soft Pretzels 1 1/2 cups warm (110 to 115 degrees F) water 1 tablespoon sugar 2 teaspoons kosher salt 1 package active dry yeast 22 ounces all-purpose flour, … [Read more...]

Not everything needs to be whole grain…

My favorite cereal of all time is Count Chocula. Growing up I always knew that my favorite season was around the corner, fall, when the Count Chocula, BooBerry, and FrankenBerry cereals hit the shelf. The rest of the year I mostly stuck to Lucky Charms which is pretty much the same concept but not chocolate. Frosted covered shapes with the world’s crunchiest marshmallows also in shapes. I was crushed when stores stopped carrying it. I mean crushed. Then came the exciting world or realizing that you could order it on line for a hefty price, which sadly I paid. Yes, that’s right; I had Count Chocula shipped to me for years. Luckily a few years back, slowly but surely Count Chocula was making its way back. Except as whole grain. Whole grain I thought? Who the F*@K makes a chocolate cereal with chocolate marshmallows whole grain? Evil people that’s who. Seriously, you changed the flavor of it by trying to make it healthier. Chocolate cereal healthier? I was more than happy with my … [Read more...]

Pumpkin meet Oreo, Oreo meet pumpkin…

Been very uninspired in the creativity department as of late so I asked Facebook readers what they thought I should make. Someone asked for a Pumpkin Coffee Cake but with Oreos. Umm, okay. She was very excited to be selected. I’m sure it was a disappointment that there was not prize or anything. Hopefully this is what she was looking for. I was going to glaze it but really couldn’t figure out what to glaze it with. Plus I wanted it to be more like a portable snack cake, which it is. No time for a real post sorry. I hope to get a lot of baking down this weekend and will attempt to make it up to you. Pumpkin Oreo Coffee Cake For Oreo batter: 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature 3 eggs 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 20 crushed Oreo cookies 1 cup sour cream 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder Pinch of salt For pumpkin batter: 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground … [Read more...]

Cakespy Tour and Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwiches…

So most of you know my buddy Jessie from Cakespy, but you might not know she came out with a whimsical and fun cookbook as well! It’s just quirky and magical, just like her. I was asked to join her Tour de Sweet and jumped at the chance! Jessie and I think a lot alike and without every discussing what the other one is making we literally will have often made almost the same thing…great minds. :) Minus the fact that she can also draw and well…I make some really lovely blobs and squiggles that I call drawings. Just like most artist, my art won’t be appreciated until I’m dead, or so I keep telling myself. If you love Jessie you will love her book. If you don’t know Jessie, head over to her blog and take a look. Her book is of course somewhat like her blog…but a little more unicorn action (not that action) and who can’t use that? I decided I would interview her for my portion of the blog tour she is doing. My interviews are usually less than traditional and I think … [Read more...]
