Snapshot Sunday…T-day Weekend Edition

Here's a quick little picture recap of my trip to Idaho to see the family. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Do anything fun? This place was on Dinner, Drive In's, and Dives and on my way to my parents so I thought I would give it a try. Very yummy. This is what my parents get to look at every day. The joys of having someone else cook...my mom made me bear pancakes. Get in a little Macy's Day Parade action before the big meal. The table was set...and then covered in food. Forget Black Friday...I had me a little White Friday. The best part of skiing.   … [Read more...]

Mini 3.14′s…

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and while most people will tell you that it’s the day to shop, I say it officially starts that which is the baking frenzy. It’s when I get the most traffic all year to my site (not to be confuse with January where everyone is on a diet and no one stops by). :P I will admit that in the world of pastry I don’t really do pie. I hate making crust. And while I will happily eat a pie that someone made (especially apple) or hell even a Hostess hand pie, I just don’t get whipped into a frenzy over pie making. But then I saw a cinnamon roll crust using premade pie crust (feel free to make your own pie crust...I’m just in a time crunch) I knew pie had to be made. It’s really quite interesting. You cut the pie dough like cinnamon rolls and then re-roll it out. I also prefer everything to be in mini form, I just feel less guilty. Which is ironic because I tend to eat twice as much. I read a study once about the mini candy bars that the found … [Read more...]

Way Back Wednesdays…start thinking cookie exchange

While most of you are running around in a frenzy trying to get your meal ready for tomorrow I thought I would quickly highlight one of my favorite holiday (and non-holiday) cookies from the past for Way Back Wednesday. They are kind of like brownies in cookie form with Andes mints swirled into them at the top. Sooo good. While you are focused on Thanksgiving, many of you probably have a Cookie Exchange on the horizon… I have two! I highly recommend these. I would make them but I’ve already done them time and again…but then again they are always a hit. Why change what isn’t broken? :) Andes Chocolate Mint Cookies 3/4 cup butter 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar 2 tablespoons water 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips 2 large eggs 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda Andes mints candies, broken in half Heat oven to 350°F. Over low heat, combine butter, sugar and water. Heat until melted and add chocolate chips until partly … [Read more...]

The kids table…

Most kids want to sit at the adult table at holidays…I do not. Not that I love the card table and folding chairs but often the conversation is far more fun at the kids table. No offense to the adults, but your conversation usually isn’t interesting until the wine kicks in. :P I saw over on Cookies and Cups adorable little Thanksgiving baggies filled with Bugles and Runts to make Bugle Cornucopias trail mix of sorts and thought it was the cutest thing ever. Too cute not to make and share. If you want to go the baggie route, she has some cute little printable tags to go with it so head on over there. I on the other hand thought it would be fun to make Cornucopias using sugar cones and fill them with the mix. They would be a great addition to the kids table at your dinner on Thursday…or even for the adults for that matter. :) Bugle Cornucopia Mix in Sugar Cone Cornucopias Sugar Cones 1 cup Chocolate chips Chocolate sprinkles Runts candies Bugles Original … [Read more...]
