We’re in the Navy now…

While my parents were here I made them watch Horrible Bosses. I am highly amused by that movie especially: Nick Hendricks: I was drag racing. I'm a drag racer. Detective Samson: You were drag racing? Nick Hendricks: Mmm. Detective Samson: In a Prius? Nick Hendricks: I don't win a lot. If you have never seen it they basically plot to kill their Horrible Bosses, though there is debate among my male friends just how horrible it would be to have Jennifer Aniston throwing herself at you. This sparked a conversation with friends about people in our lives that the world would be better off if they were not around. I was surprised in the fact that I was the only one that said no one. Now do not get me wrong there are people that I would love not to personally be in my life anymore but I don’t wish that person dead. That person has people who matter to them. You want this cake…

They say that comparison is a joy thief and whoever “they” are certainly got that right. Comparison is what makes women/men hate their bodies, where they live, what car they drive, what shoe is on their foot, etc. And it makes the food blogger get down on their blog. There have been quite a few what I will call old school food bloggers (meaning we have been around awhile) feeling not so great about their blogs or their traffic…or in my case how many people comment. Lots of people have food blogs. I mean LOTS. In just shy of two months this blog will be turning 7. Seven years of my life writing a blog about food, hockey, and sitting around in my sweatpants (they are really nice sweatpants in my defense). It makes me question at what point do I stop blogging? And it causes me to ask the question why did I start blogging in the first place? I started blogging because I was bored at home and was married to a picky eater and needed a creative outlet. Weekend at a glance…

This is my mom's Navy Bean Soup...kind of. The base is her recipe that I grew up on but I changed it a bunch...including adding bacon. :) If you want the recipe let me know and I will post it on here. Great way to use up Easter leftover ham. One of the great ways to save money and still go out is by going to a local brewery or tavern and see if they have a sample. It's a cheap way to sample a bunch of beers and you might just find one you like! There was much hockey watched this weekend by the dog...she loves it. :P Another tip for saving money...split it. Most places make portions sizes way too big nowadays and charge an arm and a leg. If you split it that's two for the price of one and you don't have that bloated I ate a giant sandwich feeling when you are done. Because I don't want you thinking that all I get is weird email/hate mail from people I present this. Reality called…they want you to come back…

Someone I know, I can’t say friend anymore (even though I was at her wedding, baby shower, baby birthdays, etc.) has adopted a new policy in life. I’m pretty sure she has been pay a little too much attention to the inspirational sayings on Pinterest, especially the one that reads “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher”. Except like many, she misinterprets this. This phrase doesn’t mean I will sit around and blow smoke up your ass…it means surround yourself with people who will make you a better person. Sometimes that’s telling you like it is. Surrounding yourself with people who will never tell you that you are being a jack ass or screwing up royally means that you will never grow as a person…and a lot of people will think you are a jackass. :P For the record she has basically unfriended every person she knows because everyone she knows has told her that the choices she is making (and changing every other day…not kidding) are not good … [Read more...]
