Oh Fudge…

The first time I made fudge I used my mom’s no fail fudge recipe…only to fail. Second time. Fail. And so I went in search of easier fudge recipes. One of the fudge recipes I love to make is peanut butter fudge…very simple and super yummy. It almost reminds me of no-bake cookies which are also yummy. I was sitting around thinking my pants were feeling far too comfortable for the holiday season…I mean I haven’t even broken out my holiday eating sweatpants yet. :) So why not make some fudge. And boy did I. I made three different batches that day. I knew I wanted the peanut butter fudge but really wanted chocolate with it. This worked nicely with the exception that sometimes the bottom half likes to detach from top…which if fine I just stick it back together. It only happened on a couple of them. Big wheels keep on turning…

I’m not sure as you get older if you become wiser…I like to think of it as you get more moments of clarity if you will. Back in my 20’s when my aunt asked me if I would like my grandmother’s china I was like um no, I have nowhere to put it. And now of course I find myself sad that I said that. The same goes for recipes. My mother would always ask me if I wanted the recipe to anything or to learn how to do make something and I would always say no because either I didn’t really like the food item or I just figured we would do it at another date and time. Now that I am 40 I am realizing that another date and time isn’t really a good strategy anymore (not that it was really ever) and that I should sink in all that my mom has to offer in the recipe department. One of those things I didn’t really like when I was younger but love now are Date Pinwheel Cookies. We had them every year at Christmas (and Christmas only) that I could ever remember. I always turned my nose up at … [Read more...]

Running on empty…

It’s a known fact I don’t run and am not a fan of it as a general rule. I own a bumper sticker that reads “0.0 I don’t run”. I’ve done the 5k and 10k thing and even a triathlon back when I was 31 because a friend thought it would be a fun thing to do (she was wrong). My point is I can run…I choose not to. I bring this up because you may recall my special friend who went to lunch with me last year and started with “remember when you used to be in shape”. For the record she has gained some of that weight back. Just saying. :P Anyway weight comes and goes and I don’t care about people’s shapes or sizes. Aside from her being the food police when you go out to eat with her (she sells diet supplements and always wants you to buy them from her) she LOVES to tell me how in shape she is because she runs. She does a 5k at least once a month if not more. She wasn’t really believing me when I said I can run I choose not to. She took it upon herself to “challenge” … [Read more...]
