Philly Take One….

love

On Tuesdays and Thursdays we usually take MDP’s daughter to soccer practice. It’s an hour and a half long and so we have time to kill. Tuesdays is our date night and after dropping her off we go to happy hour to take advantage of the cheap eats. We have a blended family counselor to mostly help with transitions and the difficulties that come with those transitions but we also work on our own relationship. One of the exercises the counselor has us do on our date night is to ask 5 questions. Sometimes we have to make them up and sometimes they are given prompts. One of our prompt questions quite a while back was if you could go anywhere in the US for vacation where would you go and why? His answer surprised me. For normally MDP automatically says he doesn’t know and then thinks about it and comes up with an answer. But this time he answered right away. He wanted to fly to Philly to see a Flyers game. I immediately came home and started a Philly Trip budget. I had planned to … [Read more...]

Forget football….

The Seahawks lost. I only care because my friend M cares otherwise it’s football. Anyway so no Seahawk Super Bowl for us. For some bizarre reason I equate the Super Bowl with Snickers. Odd yes I know. I think when I was a little kid Snickers must have had good commercial or something. Now on to the important sport…hockey. It’s back. Some of you didn’t even know it was gone. But it was. It starts back on Saturday for those who are interested (raises hand). Figured out what to do for MDP’s birthday…it’s a good one. This week I have more things than time. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Hangs head in shame…the fun sized Peanut Butter Snickers used in these are from Halloween. They are still fresh. I’m mostly just ashamed that I have Halloween candy left…normally that never happens. I’m slipping in my old age. :) … [Read more...]

Back in the saddle…

gingeralepoundcake2

So when I was watching Top Chef Seattle on Wednesday they started the Quick Fire Challenge by being inspired by Canada Dry Ginger Ale. They had to highlight ginger in whatever they were making. Of course all but one went savory as they all fear the world of pastry usually on those shows. So I thought I would represent ginger ale in the dessert world. But not in a quick fire kind of way…pound cake takes a little more than 15 minutes. :) For years I had heard about making pound cake with 7-Up. It’s quite popular in the south or so I am told. Having not baked since Christmas due to the hand I decided to get back in the saddle so to speak and make a 7-Up pound cake…only this time using ginger ale. So glad I finally tried it. Now I can’t compare it to the traditional version as I have never had it. I love that it makes the nice brown crust all the way around not just on the top. Ironically it reminded me of Sara Lee Pound Cake. Which isn’t meant to be an insult I actually like … [Read more...]

One heck of a good sandwich….

Random Updates: *Finally got into the hand surgeon. The good news is I don’t have to have surgery. The bad news is that what they thought was wrong (ganglion cyst) is not what was wrong. And now my hand is numb and they are just shaking their head. So yay (insert sarcasm). It’s getting really old is all I know. And truthfully the only person who has helped me try and figure it out is my physical therapist who actually gave a good explanation and showed me on the iPad why it is most likely numb. He did that for free because he is nice. I got charged $795 to be told by a specialist gee I’m not sure. *MDP turns 40 in a couple weeks and I need to find something special to do for that. It’s going to be hard to top my 40th birthday party (which was a hockey tournament in my honor). And I need to figure out what kind of cake to make. *Speaking of cake…I need to get practicing back on my wedding cake skills. They are still lacking greatly. The no feeling in the hand though … [Read more...]
