Got Crabs?

So I will admit that ever since Kristen packed her knives and went I have been not as interested in Top Chef Seattle. I’m happy that she is still kicking butt in Last Chance Kitchen but I’m bitter about it all the same. Like bad arugula bitter. If she doesn’t win I guess I will be routing for Josh because of how much he likes and uses bacon. This last week they left Seattle (boo and lame) and went to Alaska. They had to use Alaskan king crab to make something for the quick fire. While we can get king crab fairly easily around here most of us go for Dungeness because it’s from our reign and therefore more economical. We have a local place that makes Lobster Mac and Cheese and that inspired this Crab Mac and Cheese I made quite a while a go over on Northwest Noshings. It was popular over there so I thought in honor of the quick fire challenge I would feature it here. It would be equally great with king crab I am quite sure…or whatever crab you have around your parts. Try … [Read more...]

Pull it together…

So I had planned on writing some great post and that didn’t happen. Instead I went to work on a project for Tablespoon but clearly didn’t not think things through because I needed to open a jar of jam. Which sounds harmless enough except that it’s like THE number one thing I can’t do with my hand and I learned I have not mastered opening with the left hand. So for 40 minutes I attempted to open a jar (don’t worry MDP is already going an buying me an opener) and even though I finally got it open when I went to get the loaf pans and they weren’t there I just sort of sunk to the kitchen floor and bawled my eyes out (the loaf pans were not there because MDP was being a helper and washed them and put them away…just not where they go. :) I’m sure some of you can relate to that). The dog came and licked me and gave me the “hey crazy crying lady you are going to give me a snack later for being nice right?” And with that I heard my mother’s voice in my head saying … [Read more...]

We had a CRAZY busy weekend this weekend. Friday was MDP’s 40th birthday. The skids came over and we took him to our new favorite place to eat and inhaled food (I had the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger which may sound gross to you but is totally awesome). Then we were off to hockey to burn that burger off. :) Saturday was of course Groundhog’s Day which if you are a long time follower of this blog you know it’s my favorite holiday of all time. So I got my well wishes and had my traditional sprinkle donut and Chinese food. We also very excitingly got to run errands and took in 9 year old basketball. Sunday while everyone else was getting excited about football we went and played an hour and 45 minutes of pick up hockey and then off to a Super Bowl Party. I didn’t spend any time watching the game. I mostly chatted people’s ears off especially the guy who was named after Star Wars! His sister too. That is so what would have happened to my kids. He couldn’t dispute my genuine … [Read more...]

With Sprinkles On Top….

Now you are probably looking at this cake and thinking aww how sweet Peabody made a cake for a 6 year old girl. Nope. That cake is for a 40 year old man. :P I know it seems silly for a grown man to be getting a pink cake with sprinkles for his birthday but MDP is pretty confident in his sexuality (as am I ;) ) so he can handle it. When I was trying to figure out what to make MDP for a birthday cake (he is not a big fan of chocolate) I asked for suggestions on FB (are you following me on FB? If not, would you?) and boy did I get a lot suggestions (yay!). Other than making me hungry for cake, someone put a link to a Strawberry Milk Cheesecake that Sprinkle Bakes made. I had it pinned already but forgot about it as I often do. I knew immediately that would be the cake. After all it’s way too festive and MDP LOVES Strawberry Milk (heck I just made him bark). Problem is that Heather (Sprinkle Bakes) excels at decorating and Peabody excels at knowing people who are good at … [Read more...]
