Yoga…Not Just For Chickens Anymore…

RedVelvetCherryDumpCake2

Just like the cake I’m going to just dump random stuff.

If you don’t follow me on Instagram you probably want to by this weekend. Just saying. And no, not the wedding (but that’s way soon too). You have to request to follow me thanks to my stalker (who honestly probably just has a fake account and is stalking me that way but whatever) but I accept people. :)

I was cleaning out things. And by cleaning out things I mean going through things and then finding something and wasting hours going through it and getting nothing really cleaned out. I found my copy of Yoga for Chickens which I forgot how funny it is. If you have a yoga friend in your life you should pick it up. It’s one cent some places.

My friend Amanda (I am Baker) is coming out with her first book called Surprise-Inside Cakes: Amazing Cakes for Every Occasion–with a Little Something Extra Inside. It’s only pre-order right now but mine is all preordered up! She is who I go to for cake decorating tips and the designs she comes up with for the inside of the cake…I just am in awe of I tell you…awe.

Good news…I’m living forever. See why….here.
I went to do something crafty the other day and glued my fingers together. A good reminder that I am not crafty. I’ll stick with gluing my fingers together with frosting.

A couple people have asked what Amazon Affiliate is as they see it at the bottom of my post from time to time. Basically if you follow the link and buy that I get a tiny percentage of the sale. If you follow that link and don’t buy it and browse and buy something else I get a tiny percentage of that sale. It doesn’t cost you anything and you end up supporting the site. And if you just know you are going to buy something on Amazon if you just go to the side bar and see the Amazon link this site would benefit from anything you bought through that link. It’s an easy way to help the site if you are an Amazon shopper. :)

Now on to the cake. I had some extra cake mix left over from one of my last Tablespoon assignments and decided that it needed to be a dump cake. I was right. I love dump cake in general but I’ve never made an all cherry one or one with red velvet. All good choices. You can omit the coconut and add chocolate chips if you would like. I just really like coconut in my dump cakes. Or you can add nuts. It’s kind of black forest like and yet not really (I realize that makes no sense at all). This would be a great Valentine’s Day dessert fyi.

Red Velvet Cherry Dump Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (21 ounces each can) cherry pie filling
  • 1 box Red Velvet Cake Mix (I used Betty Crocker)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened coconut

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Spray a 9x13 inch pan with baking spray.
  3. Dump the two cans of cherries into the pan. Spread with a spatula to make even.
  4. Sprinkle cake mix over the cherries, doing your best to evenly distribute the mix.
  5. Pour butter evenly as best you can over the cake mix.
  6. Sprinkle the coconut on top of the butter covered cake mix.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven. You can serve dump cake warm or cold. I prefer mine warm for dessert and cold for breakfast. :)
  9. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream for extra yumminess.

  1. I can one-up you on the fingers. I once superglued my lips together. :P Thank goodness for chapstick because my lips were raw after I got them apart and got the glue off.

Can you believe I’ve never made a dump cake? I see them all the time and I always think it sounds so easy and tasty and tell myself, yes, I should try it!…tomorrow. And I still haven’t in the four or five years since I first started seeing them! Time to change that. Cake mix and pie filling going on the list. :)

  2. Cherry and red velvet..wow. This looks so good!! Oh I just pre-ordered Amanda’s book too. So excited for it :)

  3. Ah dump cake, something I make all too rarely. Also, I wish I had a smart phone to follow you on instagram. Although I suppose I can just do that from the website?

  4. When you said to pour the cake mix over the cherries, that means cake batter(mixed per directions on the box), right? Or do you mean we pour the powder in the box over the cherries? Sorry, I’m not the best baker!

  5. Jesse/ that means dry cake mix do not prepare batter

  6. I’ve super-glued my fingers together before too. I thought it was like normal glue and I got it on my finger and i went t rub it off like I would with Elmer’s… yeah I wasn’t that bright as a kid. I was a mess and my dad was just kinda like… what the heck?
