About Me

Filed under: General — peabody @ 6:59 pm

Okay, so several people have made comments how they know nothing about me…I like it that way :) But I will throw together a quick little “about me” page to quell some of the complainers.
Peabody is not my last name, but my first. Strange I know.
I’m half American and half Canadian….though I am 100% Canadian in my heart. I am a hockey fanatic and not only watch it almost daily but play as often as I can.

My favorite team is the Calgary Flames, but Danny Briere is my favorite hockey player. He currently plays for the Buffalo Sabres Philadelphia Flyers.

I live north of the Seattle area with my hubby and crazy cocker spaniel. Meeting my husband was the best thing to happen to me. He is my constant support and the only person, who of course, can put up with me :P. Unfortunately he is no where close to being a foodie and would happily eat a sloppy joe everyday of his life….sigh. But I love him still and try to make him eat more fancy food from time to time :)
I am a retired school teacher(science and math) who now teaches people how to cook in their own homes. I do have some culinary schooling(pastry) but I don’t get all fancy on my blog. I don’t feel the need to make something most people can not. That is not the point of my blog. I want people to be inspired and go out and make it….and more importantly enjoy it.
And that’s it…that’s what you get :)

    Dear Peabody,

I came across your recipe for Hot Eggnog Cake with Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting on BakeSpace.com. The cake is currently in the oven, and smells wonderful, but I’m worried about a single 9″ layer cake baking for 50 minutes. Is that the correct baking time at 325F? Also the frosting recipe calls for 1 1/2 packages of cream cheese; safe to assume those are 3-oz packages and not 8-oz? Or will I be making an ass out of Uma Thurman?

    Many Thanks - Jeanne H.

Peabody - You are a talented potographer and cook! I cant wait, every day, to see what you have put up and I actually cook or bake some of it too. I think you have a very wonderful talent for photographing the dishes you make. By the way, I’m originally from Seattle, but moved away from there in 1961, when my hubby left the Navy. I used to go back every year, but my parents are gone now, so I dont go any more. Miss it too. I tell everybody I know about your blog. Thank you so much. I love it! Sydne

Love your blog. I, too, am a teacher and love to cook. I read your blog often to get new ideas and I usually find something interesting to try and always interesting to read.

Dear Peabody: I have been searching to no avail for a stock photo of Coeur a la Creme for an article in the February issue of THE NIBBLE, and came across your photo. Might I possibly trade you some good food for the use of the photo?

Here is the article: pretty lame with no coeur a la creme—and we have no time to make one!

    Thanks for your consideration.

    Hey!
I know this sounds a bit repetitive (or however^^) but I REALLY like this blog. I even dare to say, it’s the best of all daring bakers, I look it up almost every day and the BEST thing about it is, that most of your recipes are really cookable I tried!!
Thanks for this wonderful blog and keep on going!!
    Greetings from Germany!!

    Peabody,

I love your site…. I’m a regular lurker:). I have a question I want to try to bake a snickerdoodle cupcake. I was wondering if a the regular snickerdoodle muffin recipe would be good??? Do you think that would be to dense for a cupcake??? What changes do you recommend.

Hi Peabody! I’ve been browsing your blog and admiring all the yummylicious looking photos and recipes. Do you do your own photography? A friend on a list I co-own recommended your blog, and I’m so glad she did. I will be trying out some of your recipes very soon. Only problem is deciding which one to try first. If you have the chance, come visit my blog (which is rather new) or come on and join us at The International Table on Yahoo groups. We would certainly love to have you with us. Keep up the good work.

Hi, i have to say… i have one of the sweetest tooths ever, and i’m a national level figure competitor, so i don’t get to eat much sugar, and it kills me! I’ve found that reading cooking magazines will supress my desire to eat horrible things in large quantites (weird, i know) and i recently found your blog… i just have to tell you how much i love reading through each experience making all your deserts (sorry,i have a thing for desert and haven’t looked at much else!) I’ve had your blog open on my desktop for a week and it’s kept me out of the kitchen just reading them and looking at the pictures - thank you so much, and although i fly to Vegas for the Olympia tomorrow, today is my birthday and i’d love it if you picked your favorite desert for me to make next week when i’m finally “off” after 6 months of dieting!!! Best of luck with everything you do!

  21. Patricia Scarpin Says:

That photo is so beautiful, Pea! I love it that you posted a photo as a bride.

  22. Laurel Says:

I have really enjoyed surfing your site/blog - I love to bake and some of these recipes are at the top of my list for this weekend!

  23. Lauren Says:

Hi Peabody! I stumbled across your blog through a website I frequent and have to say that I love all the pictures and great recipes you share. I enjoy cooking and baking, but would not go as far as saying I’m great (I’m fairly young and still learning!). I have just very recently tried two of your recipes (corn bread and orange pecan rolls sans pecans) and they turned out fantastic!! I’ve caught the baking bug and have decided to try something new each weekend. Anyways, thanks for you wonderful recipes. Keep them coming!

    -Lauren

Oh and i’ve also taken some pictures of the recipes of yours that I’ve tried and would love to share them with you. Is there a way to send them to you via your site? Thanks.

  24. Audra in Arizona Says:

Hi Peabody! I wanted to let you know that I tried out the gingerbread brioche and where mine are not quite as lovely as yours, what an amazing taste! I made them as a special dessert for a friend that loves gingerbread and lemon. Your assessment that the dough is sticky and doesn’t play well, was an understatement, but what a great result. Thank you again for taking the time to find and post such a great recipe.

  25. Katelyn Sue Says:

    Hello!

Well, this is my first time to actually comment but definitely NOT my first time visiting your blog. I’ve been drooling over your AMAZING looking treats for about a month now, ever since I found you through TasteSpotting. And I told myself that after I started a food blog, I would finally comment here and tell you so. Not that you know me and not that it affects you at all, but since your creations were what first inspired me to start it, I think it’s only proper that you know. So thank you Peabody!!

  26. Kathy Baxley Says:

I love your recipes and pictures. Your a great inspiration! I will keep coming back!

  27. JanL Says:

I just came across your wonderful website while searching for chocolate desserts to try (my new year’s resolution is to try something ~once a month~ to make something I’ve never made before). I’m excited to try some of the recipes as the photographs make them so enticing! You are a wonderful photographer and I look forward to tasting some of the desserts as the year progresses.

All the best to you in 2008!

  28. Jac Says:

I just found your site and you’re making me hungry even though I just ate lunch. But what I really can’t believe is that we share the same favorite hockey player! I absolutely lurve Danny Briere! I’m a Buffalo Sabres fan and he was my all-time favorite Sabre (sniff, this summer was awful!) and still my favorite player! I would have come back to see your beautiful photos and try your recipes… but now that I know you love Danny B too, I’ll be a regular… Cheers!

  29. Shelby Says:

Hi Peabody! We have a few things in common. Somehow, my kitten, whom I named Trouble, acquired your name from my hubby! So, when I see your name, I feel a connection! lol Also, I see you love the Flames. I am friends with Craig Conroy’s mom who used to play for the flames! I actually work at the University that Craig went to and played College hockey for.

I love your blog and I am so glad I have come across it. Keep up the good work!

  30. jenn Says:

Hi Peabody - I love seeing the fabulous desserts you whip up, and as a fellow blogger and hockey player, I had to say hi. What league do you play in and do you guys ever host tourneys? We’re always looking for fun cities to play in. Bon Appetit!
