Spike up your Holidays…

So we are down to the wire. For me Christmas is tomorrow night. So tonight is our Christmas Eve. One thing I have started to go to is hot chocolate in a crock pot. No hot chocolate is not hard to make but it’s nice to have it being kept warm in the crock pot all day and just being available when the cocoa mood strikes…and this time of year it strikes often. Just set out a few types of hot chocolate and keep some frozen whipped cream circles in the freezer and you are good to go. I was sent Holiday Slow Cooker: A Year of Hassle-Free Celebrations and while it’s not a Christmas book (it’s holidays throughout the year) I did go searching for Christmas type recipes. Found a Bailey’s cocoa recipe and decided to make it with Peppermint Schnapps since I am a peppermint cocoa kind of gal. Of course the booze is added later and so the cocoa is for everyone. And you can add just about any booze you want…and depending on what relatives show you might be drinking a lot and I mean A … [Read more...]

Love is…

Growing up my parents had these drinking glasses with two naked cartoon characters on it. I would always giggle when I would get that cup. It came from a comic strip called Love is…. Each cup had the naked couple doing something quite innocent and would say something along the lines of Love is…accepting that no one is perfect. They were cute and as I got older I learned to love them…and steal them when I went off to college. :) I learned over the years that the cups were a good reminder that the little things really do add up and while life can be complicated love should not be. Oh sure it can be hard at times as many people aren’t big on compromise but at the end of the day if it’s THAT hard to be together maybe you aren’t supposed to be. I am very fortunate that MDP and I while we have had hard times being together isn’t hard at all. Probably because we really appreciate the small things and try not to expect grandiose things from each other. And with that I am … [Read more...]

I’ll admit that I don’t really watch the Summer Olympics all that much. Canada doesn’t do well in the Summer Olympics (shocking…it helps to live in a place that has Summer) and while watching someone run with a gun and then out of breath have to shoot at targets is really hard…I don’t find it all that interesting to watch on TV. There is very little danger to the Summer Olympics. No one hurling down a mountain head first on a little sled with just a helmet that is there probably just to keep your brains in when you hit a tree head first. You know. Danger. I saw a poster that made the Summer Olympics into a drinking game and I figured that would make it far more interesting to me than just watching table tennis or synchronized swimming sober. And if you ever watch the Olympic profiles that alone will lead to you drink as well. Jimmy Smith was born in a box underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. His mother took him 47 miles one way on her bike every day for Jimmy to go to … [Read more...]

snickerdoodle cocoa

We are still having snow (it’s falling as I type) which was supposed to be gone by now. Everyone is at the point where they have taken to Twitter and Facebook to let us all know that they are tired of the snow and to complain over and over again. I wrote that if we were in Ghostbusters 2 we would be dead from the slime being turned so negative…and then included a link to the average temperatures in Phoenix in hopes of them moving there. :P The dog and I of course still love it we aren’t complaining in the least. We were out in it this morning, it’s colder than it has been so I have to take the blow dryer to her (which she hates). I on the other had to rely on hot chocolate to warm me up. I got thinking yesterday that I want something other than chocolate and decided to try and make a Snickerdoodle Cocoa. Now, it’s not actually cocoa as it uses vanilla chips instead of chocolate chips but it’s warm and wonderful all the same. The rim of cinnamon sugar adds a little … [Read more...]
