Cider House Rules..

We sure did do a quick turnaround in temperature around these parts (in the upper 50’s for a high)…my hands are freezing as I type this. But I’ll take it! It was so chilly today that I busted out the hot apple cider…which meant once opened I needed to do something with the cider. Enter this pound cake. Our weather has been exceptional lately…which isn’t a common phrase used in the Seattle area much. :) The kind where the sun is out but it’s still cool enough to do whatever activity you see fit. And of course that great autumn chill in the morning that just awakens my soul. Since I live in Washington State there is no shortage of apple products, I am lucky that a local orchard makes its own Honey Crisp Cider that I have down right become addicted to. Which is hard because it sells out quickly and unlike candy you can hide a gallon of cider in a drawer. Well I guess you could try but that just screams trouble. It resulted in a quite yummy pound cake with a sticky but … [Read more...]

Cheesecake, eh?

When my brother was in high school he worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken as it was called back then (you know it as the oh so hip and cool KFC now). Every night he worked he would come home smelling like chicken grease. So much so that after two years of working there he kind of couldn’t eat chicken anymore. So when I went to work in a bakery and they said what would you like to work on? I said cheesecake. I had this great idea that cheesecake (which I loved so much) would become my fried chicken and I would stop wanting to eat it so much. Yeah, so that didn’t work so much. In fact all it did was make me much better at making cheesecake. And I got in charge of making the flavor of the month cheesecake. The pumpkin swirl was one of my first. I highlighted it when this blog first started and thought I would update it a bit with some salted caramel. Last week we got on the subject of the Cheesecake Factory and then the mini Candy Corn Cheesecake Bites I had made at JV Soccer last … [Read more...]

The Grass is Not Always Greener…

RoloMicrowaveFudge3

I don’t totally abide by the rule that there are no regrets in life. I think from time to time there are. I would hope some of the actions I have seen people take in their life they feel regret for…the key is just not to dwell on it. The grass is always greener syndrome seems to get people into a world of regret. For me I had a case of it many years ago when I left my teaching job for curriculum to make more money. I learned the valuable lesson of making more money doesn’t mean more happiness, in fact, I was miserable the majority of that year. But for most people they leave their pasture of grass for what they think is a greener pasture in the world of love and romance. And sometimes it is greener. But it’s mostly just greener on the surface…and often it’s just a little fertilizer ;). It’s kind of like the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. How can you not like someone who is handsome/pretty and nice that takes you out on wonderful dates and wines and dines you? The rush … [Read more...]

Cruel Irony….

I’m being a cheater today. Or at least I thought I was until I realized…hey I created Way Back Wednesdays a while ago! Yay, I am only half cheating. :) And is it really cheating when I am on crutches and can’t stand up to bake? I think not. But truthfully I just couldn’t stand not to blog and well that doesn’t happen all that much lately. I guess that’s the sign of a good conference and the sign of getting to meet a lot of wonderful people over the weekend. People who gathered to talk about food, eat food, and do all things food with others that loved it. It reminded me why I blog in the first place. I love food. I love sharing my love of food. I love talking to others about food. And I love knowing I’m not alone in my love of food! I chose this cheesecake because number one I’ve been putting together an all things Fall pin board on Pinterest that highlights some of my favorite Fall recipes from this blog. And I ran across this beauty. It’s from back in the day … [Read more...]
