I don’t talk about my brothers much on here. Not that I don’t have many an amusing story about them, I just don’t seem to tell them for some reason. Anyway, my one brother has 4 children ranging (I believe…bad with birthdays) from ages 8 to 19 (with my oldest nephew having a birthday this month). That is a lot of mouths to feed and it certainly isn’t cheap, especially the growing boys. Wow. My brother was telling my dad how he had gone the other day to make a sandwich, but when he went to make it, the meat they just bought (quite a bit) was all gone, as was the bread. My brother figured the likely culprit was the oldest home from college and he asked him. What happened to the meat and bread? Well the meat went to his one sandwich and he took the loaf of bread as well as a jar of peanut butter to work just in case he got hungry, which apparently he did. Feeding that many kiddos really means that going out to eat often is a bad financial choice. I remember growing up (we … [Read more...]
Busy with a side of busy…
Wow, I had no idea it had been so long since I posted. Sorry about that. If I thought last week was crazy this one beat it with a crazy stick. But it’s all good, just all busy. So consider this a drive by post of sorts. When I was at the Winco last I ran across some caramel and vanilla swirl marshmallows. I had no idea what I would do with them but I knew something would be done. So why not throw them into Rice Krispie Treats for the team. Add some caramel bits and some left over Golden Chocolate Oreos and Double Stuff Oreos’ and you had some happy teammates. These got very enthusiastic thumbs up. Caramel-Vanilla Swirl Oreo Rice Krispie Treat Madness 6 TBSP unsalted butter 16 ounces marshmallows (Caramel and Vanilla Swirl variety) 20 ounces Rice Krispie Cereal 8 ounces caramel bits (or chop up caramels if you can’t find the baking ones) 15 Golden Chocolate Oreos, chopped 15 Double Stuff Oreos, chopped Butter a 9-x-13-inch baking pan. Or be lazy like … [Read more...]
Sugar, Sugar Baby…
I don’t have much of a cookbook budget these days (for the record I used to buy about 4 a month…not including the ones sent to me) but I did a little side job so to speak (don’t worry it was legal…in most states :P )that either paid cash or in Amazon.com gift card. If you went with the card you got more for your bang. Plus that pretty much made me have to buy a cookbook. :D Since I only got to pick out one, I really had to decide which one I really, really wanted. I had been staring at Sugar Baby for a while. I am actually a baby when it comes to candy making. My mom didn’t make it growing up and I still have nightmares from sugar class…pulled sugar=no fingerprints for 13 years (well, not good ones). It’s hit or miss with me on candy. Sometime success, sometimes not. I usually stick to bark because it’s easy. But I finally decided I needed to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. So I ordered the book. The book in general just makes me happy. It’s a … [Read more...]
