No such thing as too much chocolate…

Ah Cyber Monday, how I love you. In a day and age filled with people not having to interact with each other, I especially appreciate it today. Gone are the days of standing in line outside the Wal-Mart all night to possibly be one of the three people who will get the $100 plasma TV, only to be trampled on. Now I can only virtually be trampled on. I no longer have to deal with playing tug of war over the last My Little Pony and have to listen to some woman go on and on about how her daughter really needs it…so do I woman, this one completes my set. :P No more dirty looks or being cut off or even tackled (I saw that once at a Target at 6am). Though Cyber Monday is not without its draw backs. Sure I get to shop in the comfort of my pajamas and robes, but so do most of the people shopping at Wal-Mart year round :P. But by the time I load my cart up and go to check out, half of the great deals that were there, are now gone. Someone had up and stole it from me and I didn’t get to … [Read more...]

Axe murderers and tea….

I think my mom would probably freak out if she knew all the random people I meet up with from the Internet. But really it’s no different than meeting anyone. Anyone could be an axe murderer. Maybe I am? If I am, I’m a lousy one as I don’t think I can even swing an axe, but you never know. For years I have been back and forth with the woman who runs Melinda’s Kitchen Diary. Yesterday I got to meet her. And what a lovely person she is. Warm and vibrant and a fellow lover of food. She brought me an adorable pink bag from Harrods that is covered in sweets and was filled with all things British. The Demarquette Fine Chocolates were immediately hidden from any one that might find them other than me. :) I had decided to make something American. I tried to think if they had root beer in the UK. She said that they did not. I had seen a recipe for root beer float brownies and decided that that said America. But I wanted them to be cupcakes. So I messed with the recipe a little and … [Read more...]

Insert Witty Title…

Insert witty post here. Sorry I have been MIA busy weekend obviously and no real time now. So I will leave you with these. They were one of the original recipes on this blog back in 2006! And no this isn’t a Way Back as I remade them. I actually make them a lot. People and kids (in fact I had helpers make these…they get mixed by hand so that’s always good to get the kiddos involved with) alike love them. Hope everyone had as awesome of a holiday weekend as I did! Brownie Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting Cupcakes 6 TBSP (3/4 stick) unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips (about 8 ounces) 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped 1/2 cup (packed) golden brown sugar 1/3 cup sugar 2 large eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt Frosting: 1 cup powdered sugar 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter (do not use old-fashioned or freshly ground) 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature 1/4 … [Read more...]

Three for the price of one…

It wasn’t really a question so much as a statement so I will try to answer it, even though I’m guessing as to what they were actually asking: “The divorce/cash flow seems so out of sync with what you write.” I can only assume you mean that because I write about not spending money you don’t have then why don’t I have any money? Well first off when I was figuring out what I would need to live off of when my ex and I were no longer together this website was bringing in much more ad revenue and my budget was based on that. That ad agency joined with another one and I went to making about a 1/6th of what I was making when I made my budget. I switched to a new ad company which pays better than the last one but not nearly what I was making before. I substitute teach which is random money and no money in the summer. I work a couple other odd jobs that bring more steady income but not a ton of income. I don’t consider things like Starbucks, new clothing, going out to … [Read more...]
