Move over Hansel and Gretel…

I’m often surprised when people tell me that they don’t have any holiday traditions. My ex-husband didn’t have any, which I actually loved because that meant we would just do mine. :P But I have met more than a few people in my time that don’t do this. And while I think traditions are fun, in some ways, they can also cause unnecessary stress to your holiday season. This year one of my traditions is getting broken. Ever since I can remember we were allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve, which amazingly were always new pajamas. My mom always bought them for me even as an adult, until I got married in which she let my ex-husband know that he was in charge of that now. Even last year, my ex-husband’s gift to me was pajamas since he knows that is one of my major holiday traditions. This year when he told me that he was playing Santa I wrongly assumed that I was getting pajamas. Don’t get me wrong he got me a way cool gift that is more exciting than pajamas it just made me … [Read more...]

Let it snow…

See that snowflake? It’s really a tortilla. I saw those and knew I had to make them, for while it is cold enough to get snow right now, we don’t have the moisture to go with it. So I had to make my own. The originals had melted butter and sugar on them, which were very cute. But I chose to go savory so that I could dip them in hummus. The key is definitely to heat the tortilla in the microwave for about 15 seconds so it’s pliable and then just cut it like you would a snowflake. Yes, it is harder to do than say cutting paper, but who cares if it’s not gorgeous, you are going to eat it and it’s way fun. Buy the biggest tortillas you can to make it easier to cut. You can go smaller but your shapes will be limited. Mine was limited as I was cutting left handed. Which was amusing unto itself. Reindeer games…

Peabody currently is feeling a little bit like Rudolph. See I don’t get to play in any reindeer games right now…I know it as hockey. In fact I’m getting to do very little as of right now. A few months ago I wrote that my right hand was being weird and they chalked it up carpal tunnel from being on the computer and mixing stuff by hand often. But then about three weeks ago my whole right arm decided randomly to go numb. When it didn’t go away I went to the doctor. After poking and prodding my new internist, who I actually like, decided that it’s a nerve thing, with it most likely being a pinched nerve in my neck or shoulder. Oh goodie. Lucky for me the day I went unlike when I normally go, my pinched nerve was in full force, with me not even being able to touch my ring finger or pinky finger to my thumb. So he referred me to a neurologist and gave me never blockers until I got an appointment. Oh and uttered the words I dreaded to hear…no hockey until it’s no longer … [Read more...]

In too deep…

I put my mind somewhere and apparently can’t find it. See I went to cookie exchange today, the same one I go to every year. We also do an ornament exchange on that one as well (I got a cute penguin one of the exchange). And I exchange gifts with someone there as well. Plus my friend J got me the cutest little ornament that has gingerbread cookies on a baking sheet (very me). My point being there was a lot in my hands when I left. So much so that when I was pretty much all the way home (I do not live close by) I realized that I forgot my cookie tray there. I figured I have another cookie exchange on Saturday and the hostess of this exchange is going to that one as well (we like our cookies). But then the hostess called me while I was driving home. I was about to say I know I left my tray when she uttered very sad news…yes, I had left my tray…and ALL of my exchange cookies as well. AHHHHH. That pretty much sucks broken Christmas bulbs. So to cheer my cookie-less self up I … [Read more...]
