Not everything needs to be whole grain…

My favorite cereal of all time is Count Chocula. Growing up I always knew that my favorite season was around the corner, fall, when the Count Chocula, BooBerry, and FrankenBerry cereals hit the shelf. The rest of the year I mostly stuck to Lucky Charms which is pretty much the same concept but not chocolate. Frosted covered shapes with the world’s crunchiest marshmallows also in shapes. I was crushed when stores stopped carrying it. I mean crushed. Then came the exciting world or realizing that you could order it on line for a hefty price, which sadly I paid. Yes, that’s right; I had Count Chocula shipped to me for years. Luckily a few years back, slowly but surely Count Chocula was making its way back. Except as whole grain. Whole grain I thought? Who the F*@K makes a chocolate cereal with chocolate marshmallows whole grain? Evil people that’s who. Seriously, you changed the flavor of it by trying to make it healthier. Chocolate cereal healthier? I was more than happy with my … [Read more...]

Cakespy Tour and Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwiches…

So most of you know my buddy Jessie from Cakespy, but you might not know she came out with a whimsical and fun cookbook as well! It’s just quirky and magical, just like her. I was asked to join her Tour de Sweet and jumped at the chance! Jessie and I think a lot alike and without every discussing what the other one is making we literally will have often made almost the same thing…great minds. :) Minus the fact that she can also draw and well…I make some really lovely blobs and squiggles that I call drawings. Just like most artist, my art won’t be appreciated until I’m dead, or so I keep telling myself. If you love Jessie you will love her book. If you don’t know Jessie, head over to her blog and take a look. Her book is of course somewhat like her blog…but a little more unicorn action (not that action) and who can’t use that? I decided I would interview her for my portion of the blog tour she is doing. My interviews are usually less than traditional and I think … [Read more...]

Halloween Family Fun with McCormick…

October is here and I have some kid friendly recipes to help your family celebrate the upcoming Halloween season all thanks to McCormick. I’m highlighting two recipes that you can make with your kids. One that is a little “younger” kid friendly (the Pumpkin Sugar Cookies) and one for your older kids to have fun with (Ghostly Halloween Cupcakes). I was excited to learn that McCormick® makes a black food coloring. In the past whenever I have tried black food coloring it always came out a weird purple color, but as you can clearly see from my cupcakes, their black food coloring is indeed black! That’s a rare and cool find. And if you don’t need black food coloring, McCormick® also has Assorted Food Colors that can be combined to come up with just about any color combination to make your Halloween treats more colorful and festive! I combined their yellow and red food coloring to make orange a vivid orange for the pumpkin cookies. I used cookie and cake mix to make it … [Read more...]

Axe murderers and tea….

I think my mom would probably freak out if she knew all the random people I meet up with from the Internet. But really it’s no different than meeting anyone. Anyone could be an axe murderer. Maybe I am? If I am, I’m a lousy one as I don’t think I can even swing an axe, but you never know. For years I have been back and forth with the woman who runs Melinda’s Kitchen Diary. Yesterday I got to meet her. And what a lovely person she is. Warm and vibrant and a fellow lover of food. She brought me an adorable pink bag from Harrods that is covered in sweets and was filled with all things British. The Demarquette Fine Chocolates were immediately hidden from any one that might find them other than me. :) I had decided to make something American. I tried to think if they had root beer in the UK. She said that they did not. I had seen a recipe for root beer float brownies and decided that that said America. But I wanted them to be cupcakes. So I messed with the recipe a little and … [Read more...]
