Five servings of fruits and veggies…

I have what I feel is an unnatural addiction to corn (not to be confused with porn…spelling is very important here kids). For years growing up it was one of the few *vegetables* I would eat (along with the other fake vegetables of peas and potatoes)…oh and green beans, I loved those as well. I really should have been born somewhere in the Midwest as I would gladly eat corn with every meal. I put it in my scrambled eggs with a little basil…mmmm. I eat giant bowls of it with just butter and sea salt as a meal. Of course on the cob. Creamed. You named it. So naturally, years ago when passing a corn stand and seeing “try our corn ice cream” I decided why the heck not. And holy goodness. So when I got ahold of Jenni’s Splendid Ice Cream book and the first things I saw in the summer section was a recipe for Sweet Corn Ice Cream with Black Raspberry sauce I KNEW that was the first thing I was making no questions asked!!! It did not let me down. If you even remotely like corn … [Read more...]

My drunk popsicle…

Late one night on Twitter (are you following me?…I say really boring stuff you are missing out on and on rare occasion something humorous) I saw Kitchen Wench post her newest love. It was a You Tube series called My Drunk Kitchen. I was watching it on my phone so the picture was rather small and the first thing I thought to myself was, why is Justin Bieber cooking drunk? But turns out it is not Justin Bieber but actually it works out because according to her website she is a “big ol’ homo” and everyone thinks Bieber is a closet lesbian anyway. And then I got to watching and immediately became addicted. And then immediately became sad as I thought to myself why didn’t I think of this? This is my typical Saturday night…though I bake drunk WAY better than Hannah any day. If you are at work or the kiddos are around don’t watch it (lots of language). But if you want a really good laugh, break out a bottle of wine, drink it and then watch the videos. There are currently only 7 … [Read more...]

Milking it….

Today at lunch with a former teammate the four ladies to the left of me were going on and on about what great mom’s they were patting each other on the back and gossiping about the PTA (O) and how lucky their child’s teacher was to have them as a helper in the classroom. I did kind of choke on my food a bit. See, when I was a teacher I was not in favor of the parent volunteer. Come observe my classroom all you want, feel free, that’s not what bothered me. What bothered me is that most of them are there for the wrong reasons. Ask most teachers and they will tell you that the biggest gossips at school are the homeroom mom’s and PTA members. The ones who pop in during lunch or who ease drop while they ran the copy machine. I was mean and often had a plan to get rid of our extra gossipy moms, a litmus test of sorts. Our copy room was where our mailboxes were, many homeroom moms of the younger kids were always copying papers for their teachers…as well as listening in to what … [Read more...]

Oh, the weather outside is…

Weather seems to be the only universal thing people can talk about and if you live in the Seattle area it’s pretty much the only thing people talk about. Most of this spring my FB feed has been filled with “where’s my spring?” It’s right here; it’s just not how you would like it. :) When the sun comes out FB is filled with “finally spring is here, it’s about time”. Again, spring has been here. It’s the go to conversation for the grocery checker, who I always confuse. “Enjoy this gloomy day” I was told last week sarcastically after a slew of sunny days. To which I replied “I will, I love days like this, it’s why I moved to the Seattle area”. Then I usually get looked at like a freak. Which I am. Don’t get me wrong, as long as there is no heat along with the sun, I say bring it. But it rarely does that. Gray days are made for cuddling with the one you love under a blanket. Sipping tea and reading books. I play an indoor sport so I could care less about … [Read more...]
