Weather seems to be the only universal thing people can talk about and if you live in the Seattle area it’s pretty much the only thing people talk about. Most of this spring my FB feed has been filled with “where’s my spring?” It’s right here; it’s just not how you would like it. :) When the sun comes out FB is filled with “finally spring is here, it’s about time”. Again, spring has been here. It’s the go to conversation for the grocery checker, who I always confuse. “Enjoy this gloomy day” I was told last week sarcastically after a slew of sunny days. To which I replied “I will, I love days like this, it’s why I moved to the Seattle area”. Then I usually get looked at like a freak. Which I am. Don’t get me wrong, as long as there is no heat along with the sun, I say bring it. But it rarely does that. Gray days are made for cuddling with the one you love under a blanket. Sipping tea and reading books. I play an indoor sport so I could care less about … [Read more...]
Alternative lifestyle…
I like to stick strictly to the: don’t give advice unless asked and really wish more people would follow this policy in life. I often offend some of my fellow hockey players because they love to tell you how to play (not my current team) and I usually told them to F-off always followed up with Jesus loves you for good measure. I often confuse them because I will ask advice from players on my team. They players whom I want to learn to skate like. So because they see me ask other players they assume I want their advice as well, they are never happy with my honest answer of I don’t want advice from you because I don’t want to skate like you. Men don’t do well with a bruised ego. Recently I have been contemplating something. I made a statement about this to a few people. And in return they basically started listing pros and cons to what I was contemplating. In to which I politely told them I don’t remember following up with, “and what do you think about this”? When did … [Read more...]
Looking for a good time…
There is rarely a good time to do anything. And yet people are always waiting for it, waiting for the right time. The right time to get married, travel, have kids, move to a foreign country, go back to school…you name it. This is no way to navigate through life. The hardest part of the divorce was getting up the nerve to talk about it. The elephant in the room that we chose to ignore week in and week out. I kept building in my mind how horrid the talk would go all the things that would go wrong, etc… And yet, once it was out there it was a huge weight lifted off. I think so many times people build up all the worst case scenarios in their head and instead of doing what’s best they wienie out instead. They don’t want to disrupt the status quo. Well to this I say put on your big girl (or boy) panties on and bite the bullet to whatever it is you’ve been needing to do. You will never find the right moment. This week one of my former students had to tell her son that her … [Read more...]
Bieber fever…
“I just need to pay someone to take my kid to see the F*ing Bieber movie, I don’t have the strength to sit through that.” My ears perked up and I leaned over and said, “How much are you offering?” For the record it was $50 plus the cost of transportation, movie, and snacks. I told him for an extra $25 I would wear a Bieber t-shirt but no go. :D And with that has formed my newest way to gather income. Rent me to take your Tween to the Bieber (3D…why is 3D necessary?) movie. I’m up to three kids …I can see this moving into a whole new career. :P Surly Miley Cyrus will come out with something again. Or how about the Wiggles? Or Dora on Ice? I’m your gal. Though I’m not really sure how long that career can last before I go mental. Speaking of going mental…tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and a lot of people will be going mental. Just remember, it’s just a day in the year, one out of three hundred and sixty five (excluding leap years). And for most people … [Read more...]
