Fun-damental….

Recently my friends and I got into a discussion about the song, F*cking Perfect by P!nk. My friend started the conversation with admitting that she chose the radio edit version to download, and because of that she felt like an Old Fogey. It’s not that she was against swear words in songs, just this one, as P!nk is talking to her unborn daughter in the song and she felt it was “ gratuitous and unnecessary in the overall context of the song”. I of course disagreed. Now I am not for swearing just to swear. And some may be appalled at the idea of a mother dropping the F-bomb to their child. But here’s the thing, that’s her. That is who she is. If you have ever seen an interview with her, she cannot make it through without swearing, specifically the F-bomb. Her daughter will most likely be as foul mouthed as her. And oddly enough I respect her for it. She makes zero apologies for who she is. Some may find it odd that I respect Ann Coulter as well. Don’t get me wrong, I hate her … [Read more...]

I’ll see your Pumpkin Spice Latte and raise you a Mascarpone Cheesecake Pot…

I know that fall is just around the corner when Starbucks rolls out their Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Nothing makes me giddier than getting my first one. The aroma of the coffee with the hint of pumpkin and the warming spices just puts you in a happy mood. Top that with a little whipped cream and you are good to go. I was doing a little different sampling of pumpkin this weekend, attending the Great Pumpkin Beer Fest(at Elysian Brewery here in the Seattle area) where they featured 30 different pumpkin beers, including one that they do a second fermentation in an actual giant pumpkin (even if you don’t like beer, you have to admit that is cool). Though I learned that when one starts drinking at 1pm and just keeps going, no matter how small the glass, you will end up sleeping on your friends couch so you don’t drive home. And you will end up with their cat sleeping on your face. Which I did not realize cats do. So that was an interesting way to start the day. :) (See glass is very … [Read more...]

Top Chef Peabody’s Chocolate Overload…

Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. The first real challenge was all about chocolate. Trying to make the most decadent chocolate dessert possible. Truthfully the fact that the winner used white chocolate to me makes it null and void. I like white chocolate, but it’s not chocolate. Do you think white chocolate is chocolate? Anyway, I watched and listened as the judges picked apart the dessert. They seemed to be most impressed with the desserts that had different texture and different chocolates. The very same day I was thinking of this my much awaited copy of Baked: Explorations came out. I LOVED their last book and couldn’t wait until for this to arrive on my doorstep. Inside was a Mississippi Mud Pie. Which had a cookie crust, a flourless chocolate cake bottom, and chocolate pudding. Okay, now we are talking. I had originally wanted to make chocolate meringues to crush up and put on top, but our humidity the last couple of days was making a crunchy meringue a big no-no. If I were to … [Read more...]

Wake me up when September ends…

Somewhat similar to that of my wedding day, I remember talking to people, and eating, and drinking but when I go to recollect it is all a blur. The 2nd annual International Food Bloggers Conference came to an end today. Sad and relieved all at once as my pillow is not only calling my name at this point, it’s downright screaming it. If you followed me on Twitter this weekend at all you know I consumed what one may consider to be a large amount of beer (though really that’s subjective ;) ) with others whom I won’t rat out but I think that might be contributing to my overtired self as well. :D I went the conference with two goals in mind. To meet and greet people that I had been On-line friends with, and to hopefully get inspired to be a good blogger again. As anyone who runs a blog knows the motivation wall often pops up, mine lately being the size of the Great Wall of China. I am happy to report that both things happened. And more importantly, I made new friends as well. By far … [Read more...]
