Hungry, hungry Peabody’s….

It’s 48F right now. My dog is shivering in a blanket and the heat is on. Yet somehow it’s June 1st on Saturday. June the month with 9 million things going on for me. One of which is this here blog turns 8! EIGHT! Holy cow. And let me tell you I have come to the conclusion that blog years are a lot like dog years…so in reality I’ve been blogging for 56 years…well at least it seems like that long. Summer is coming and I am trying something new this year. I put away my scale. I mean really put it away. In a box. And that box is now on a shelf I can’t reach. I went to the doctor when I cut my finger open and they went to weigh me (which hello I’m bleeding why is this important?) and the nurse said step on the scale and said no. And she looked at me and I said I’m in a self-image study (I didn’t tell her it was my own study :P ) and she said oh well let’s not worry about that then. Dip it good…

I’m not sure if my mom is weird (well actually I know she is) but growing up every holiday came with the full meal but she always made appetizers as well. I am learning that most people don’t do this. I think it started because us kids would get hungry smelling the food cooking and then annoy the crap out of my mom asking when we would be eating…enter appetizers. It’s smart if you think about it…the food smells really good if you are cooking it right. :) So everyone is hungry and sometimes you aren’t moving quickly as the hungry peeps would like (my mom always tells us 20 minutes…that turns into 2 hours). It’s a tradition that has just carried over to me and so I am always on the lookout for new appetizers and dips to serve. The first time I served this I came back to check on it after 15 minutes and it was completely gone. It gets requested A LOT around these parts. Apple of my eye….

Not around much in the food blogging world this week….crazy busy week but crazy good. Don’t worry next week I have nothing and can sit around and talk food…and make food. These are a great appetizer that is a spinoff of my Blue Cheese Cheesecake with Pear Onion Jam I made years ago. If you are saying ewww gross…I can assure you that savory cheesecake is wonderful. And when spread on crackers it’s a fun way to serve a cheese spread. And it classes things up. :D This recipe originally was for a magazine article that ran the story but never paid me. So thanks for that. It’s my fault because they stiffed me before and asked me to do another story telling me check was in the mail. Pull it together…

So I had planned on writing some great post and that didn’t happen. Instead I went to work on a project for Tablespoon but clearly didn’t not think things through because I needed to open a jar of jam. Which sounds harmless enough except that it’s like THE number one thing I can’t do with my hand and I learned I have not mastered opening with the left hand. So for 40 minutes I attempted to open a jar (don’t worry MDP is already going an buying me an opener) and even though I finally got it open when I went to get the loaf pans and they weren’t there I just sort of sunk to the kitchen floor and bawled my eyes out (the loaf pans were not there because MDP was being a helper and washed them and put them away…just not where they go. :) I’m sure some of you can relate to that).
