Bloggeritis….

I’m not in school. I haven’t been for a while now. For a while I was a school junkie. I went all the time. I went straight until I turned 31 and moved to WA State and the UW didn’t have the program I was in the middle of. And so I stopped. It’s funny because it didn’t seem like it at the time as it was just what I did, be the perpetual student, collecting degrees (that clearly I do so much with)but wow do I have a lot of schooling. When I had to go to jury duty and they had me fill out the form it asked how many years had a gone to school. 24. That’s a long time. That’s a long time especially to end up as a food blogger. :P Eight years of running this blog is rapidly approaching. Eight years. I don’t know if it’s because it’s been that long or because Seattle has looked like this as of late: But this girl has a giant case of senioritis except the blog version. I have bloggeritis. It’s a thing I swear. Now unlike senioritis I don’t have it because the … [Read more...]

Darn close to the world’s best….

Ever notice no one ever says World’s Most Mediocre Banana Bread? They should though. I have tried my fair share of World’s Best Banana Bread only to be sadly disappointed. Perhaps it’s like in Elf when he believes the sign World’s Best Cup of Coffee. Deep down I know it’s probably not going to be the best banana bread and yet I try any way. I like my mom’s banana bread as it is unique because it uses graham flour, but I would not call it the world’s best banana bread (well at least not for me…it’s good don’t get me wrong). Part of the problem is that most banana breads in my opinion don’t use enough bananas. I mean one of the main reasons I am even making banana bread is because I have a ton of bananas to use up that are mocking me on the counter. So when I recipe calls for 1 or 2 bananas I say boo on that. So I decided to try and think what is it that I love? Malted milk. I use it in a lot of things…I’ve never used it in banana bread (or muffins in this … [Read more...]

Have Mercy…

So I’ve been feeling bad lately about my lack of cooking. When MDP and I first started dating I used to cook all the time. Then he made the mistake of showing me he can cook too. :) First it started with breakfast on Sundays…now he is pretty much in charge of weekend breakfast. And more and more he has taken over dinner duty as well. Not because I don’t want to but because my hand acts up and cooking/baking can sometimes flare it up worse. But guilt sunk in along with the fact that for once I had a Friday night and Saturday free. So I told myself I wanted to make him something that took a little time and showed I cared so I went for a Flemish Beef and Beer Stew (I was rebelling against all the Irish Stew made this week). I’ll post the recipe in another post because it was fantastic. Yes it took 5 hours but that was mostly just cook time. And then I decided that since my hand was feeling good and he is always in charge of breakfast that I would go all out for that as well. I … [Read more...]

Happy trees…

bananapeanutbuttercaptaincrunchcupcakes1

Growing up I loved watching Bob Ross on PBS…even as a teenager (did you know he was on for 31 seasons! That’s a lot of happy trees). So much so that I convinced my dad to get to use his oil paints (he used to paint). It’s not that I really every think I wanted to paint. I think it was that Bob Ross and his happy trees was just so darn happy that I thought maybe if I painted myself something in sky blue and Van Dyke brown my happiness would come too. It was probably just the paint fumes. :P Anyway I painted a variety of things…all landscape of course and I made what Bob Ross would call happy accidents a lot (as he would say “we don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents”). My first ones were mostly blobs but my father hung them proudly and my mother followed along and hid them in the dark corners of the house. :) I wasn’t just randomly thinking of Bob Ross…yesterday he was on the Google page and several people “thought of me” when they saw it and asked … [Read more...]
