Raisins? What Raisins?

Some of you saw on FB my yummy looking French Toast we made yesterday for the kids. Funny story: I kept telling everyone that I had made Cinnamon Raisin Brioche…because I thought I had. Until I sliced it open only to realize that I did not make Cinnamon Raisin Brioche just Cinnamon Swirl Brioche. Oops. So I quickly scanned the kitchen and sure enough over in the corner was the little bowl of raisins all measured out. :) Dear mind…where have you gone? Please come back. Nonetheless that was some serious insanely good French toast and totally worth me making the bread for it. And yes, I made the bread purposefully just to be made into French toast. MDP thinks it’s cool and slightly mental all at the same time that I do things like that. If baking bread purposefully for French toast is the most crazy thing I do I think we are all doing alright. And of course to make it better for us we made sure to use heavy cream instead of milk in our French toast egg batter. :P I had a crazy … [Read more...]

Long week…

Clearly you deserve a better post…but that won’t be today. :P It’s been a long week around here. People who are close to me know that when someone passes in my life I usually bake bread. Not sure why I just always have. Sadly one of our local hockey family, a guy I have played both with and against, passed away on Wednesday morning. He played a game of hockey and said he wasn’t feeling well but still went to his second game of hockey where he played a few shifts. Told everyone he didn’t feel great and was going home. And at 7am the next morning he had a heart attack and died. Life is short people, spend it with the ones you want to, don’t waste your time on anything that isn’t bringing you joy. I did manage to make something…these are kind of healthy muffins…well healthy for me. I was going to make a pretzel topping but never got around to it. Like I said, weird week. Peanut Butter White Chocolate Chip Muffins ½ cup vegetable oil 1 cup peanut butter (your … [Read more...]

Drawing a blank…

I keep staring at the blank page and so I am just writing something down. Anything. So here you go: 1. You can’t argue with crazy because they think they are always right. 2. I’m happy Trader Joe’s carries varieties of goat’s cheeses…not just goat cheese like you know goat cheese. 3. Saw the movie The Kids Are Alright….and well. Hmmm. I know it won awards and all but boy was that movie, well odd. 4. I correctly guessed that my friend’s baby would be a girl. You may not think this is exciting but in the last 4 years I have been 22 out of 23 in correctly guessing the sex of my friends soon to be babies. And I am still waiting for proof on the one incorrect guess. 5. Schweddy Balls ice cream is a real thing. It’s also hard to find. My bff went to several stores to hunt it down for me. We like it. We even bought another pint of it…only to anger a woman who was also looking for it. As we knew where it was and she didn’t and she was talking about it on the phone … [Read more...]

Everything falls apart….

“Everything that falls apart baby, sooner or later gonna come back together Well everything that comes together baby, sooner or later falls apart” –Dog’s Eye View You may have noticed on Facebook if you are on there a bunch of you know you’re from Some City when kind of posts. Well, the very first school I ever taught at started their own page. It’s been quite amusing/embarrassing seeing what the student and teacher remember from back in the day. This has also led to many a student hunting me down and friending me. It has also led to them opening up to me about their lives just like they did in junior high. I think once you gain a kids trust it just kind of sticks with them. And while I sugar coat every food item I seem to make, I do not sugar coat life. Which they often tell me I was just the kick in the pants they needed. :) One of my students is going through something incredibly painful. I have listened to her and tried to be there for her as much as one can … [Read more...]
