Battle of the butter….

As some of you may know there has been recent war ragging among Paula Deen and Anthony Bourdain. Let me be the first to tell you that I like them both equally. I enjoy the show No Reservations, but will gladly say that I won’t be willingly (you just never know what you get at those taco trucks sometimes) eat fish balls or guniea pig intestines. I enjoy his enthusiasm of the countries he visits and his sincere interest in both the food and culture. But I also like me some Paula Deen. People often call me the Paula Deen of food blogging because I can take something bad for you and make it worse. :P I will agree with Anthony on the fact that the majority of Paula’s cooking isn’t all that healthy. But then again neither is spending most of your 20’s and 30’s doing cocaine and still drinking heavily and smoking heavily. I’ve made many a thing by Paula Deen, mostly desserts I will admit, because I appreciate her love of butter. And they have all turned out well so to say that … [Read more...]

Way Back Wednesday: Chocolate Peppermint Stick Marshmallow Fantasy Cake…

This week’s installment of Way Back Wednesday is a bittersweet one. It comes from what I made for my housewarming party back in 2007 when I was so excited to be moving into my new home. It ties in sort of with a readers question so I thought it seemed like a good choice: Is being single after marriage scary? What advice would you give to someone who is going through a divorce for how to get through it? Getting through it? Well, I am still getting through it so to speak. When I was first was going through it I pretty much thought I was crazy. I would be happy and content thinking yes clearly this was the way to go, and literally an hour later bawling my eyes out freaking out. But with time that passes. I still randomly cry if I run across something but it helps that my ex and I still talk and see each other from time to time. There was no, I will never see this person again in my life. I think people feel like when they get divorced or they break up (especially if they are … [Read more...]

In cars with strangers….

I am sad to report that though I will be going on living in the Seattle area for almost 7 years I have not been to a lot of places around here. People are often in shock when they mention a place and I have #1 never heard of it, and therefore #2 never been. This happened just the other day. While at a friend’s party I made a couple new acquaintances and they were in awe that I had never been to a local beach that is super popular around here. The next thing you know they are trying to convince me to go with them to the beach. They weren’t offering me candy so I figured they were probably safe. :) But I told them no as my dog was more than wanting her dinner as it was past due and probably wanted to go out as well. They reluctantly said okay only to start texting me shortly after I got home that I should come out, come out, come out! So I asked if I could bring the dog since I had been gone most of the day and they agreed. As luck would have it we arrived at the beach just in … [Read more...]

Cloudy with a chance of dirt…

So while to some people 68F isn’t that warm it is to me, when you live in the apartment I do. PNW apartments are built to keep heat in, as most of the time we are more cool than warm, and therefore can get quite warm and a little stuffy. This makes me not want to bake so much. It doesn’t help that I live on the 3rd floor either. But just to keep me in check I like to keep on my MSN page what the weather is doing in Phoenix. I was beyond amused when this is what I saw. Since when did DUST become weather? I know they get dust, I lived there. Even better is when you get a dust storm followed by an afternoon monsoon storm so everything is caked in mud. So in honor of Phoenix I will highlight things I learned while living there: 1. The phrase “leave no stone left unturned” should be ignored. Never, ever check under a rock. You will most likely meet Mr. Scorpion or worse, his friend the vinegaroon (which think spider meets scorpion…it’s so not good). 2. It’s a dry … [Read more...]
