At this point I am waiting for people to hire photographers for first date photos. Seriously wedding photographers, this could be your new thing. I think people would fall for it. Hire a photographer to go out with you on every first date because you never know, this could be the one. And wouldn’t it be nice if you could look back on your first date and know that it was all captured by a professional photographer. I bring this up because I am in awe of how many things nowadays people hire professional photographers for. Don’t get me wrong if you have the money and you want it done, go for it, I certainly have enough friends who take pictures for a living and would appreciate the work. But let’s look for example of a girl I know who her boyfriend arranged for them to have photos of him proposing done. The girl thought they were just getting their pictures taken for a Christmas card. But he popped the question. That wasn’t their engagement photos. It made sense to me that … [Read more...]
Battle of the butter….
As some of you may know there has been recent war ragging among Paula Deen and Anthony Bourdain. Let me be the first to tell you that I like them both equally. I enjoy the show No Reservations, but will gladly say that I won’t be willingly (you just never know what you get at those taco trucks sometimes) eat fish balls or guniea pig intestines. I enjoy his enthusiasm of the countries he visits and his sincere interest in both the food and culture. But I also like me some Paula Deen. People often call me the Paula Deen of food blogging because I can take something bad for you and make it worse. :P I will agree with Anthony on the fact that the majority of Paula’s cooking isn’t all that healthy. But then again neither is spending most of your 20’s and 30’s doing cocaine and still drinking heavily and smoking heavily. I’ve made many a thing by Paula Deen, mostly desserts I will admit, because I appreciate her love of butter. And they have all turned out well so to say that … [Read more...]
Nature vs nurture…
Another thing that was touched on in Kung Fu Panda 2 was that Poe found out that the goose that raised him was not his real dad. While others seemed to know this Poe never really caught on and was definitely saddened by the fact that his dad had not told him. I have two brothers whom I usually never bring up on here. One is my half-brother, the other is adopted. They are both equally my brothers but I point out how they are related to me for a reason. The movie got me thinking more on nature vs. nurture. Poe was raised in a loving way and yet all his life he knew something was different. He didn’t love noodles the way his dad did (he loved to eat them just didn’t get excited about selling them), though he did learn to make amazing soup from him. My brothers and I were all raised in the same nurturing environment yet each turned out in completely different ways. Very different. And all three of us took very different paths in life. I relate most to my mom. She is the one that … [Read more...]
Won’t you be my neighbor…
Often I read other bloggers after losing someone in their life talk about the fact that their blog was like therapy. And though I did not lose someone in the form of death, it is still a loss. And as you can see through my major posting, the blog is in a sense like therapy to me. Though I have real life friends who are amazingly supportive, the support of my readers is also important to me. I guess that is why in a way I have been working on trying to build more of a community of sorts on this blog. I will never be a juggernaut (nor do I have the desire to be). I like being that off-beat blog that people come by and say hi, like I’m Norm from Cheers. :) Which is why I have been pushing the Facebook Page as of late. It’s purely therapeutic for me. I love interacting with my readers on a more personal level. I love discussing silly things like me getting excited about 3 boxes of unsalted butter for $5 (because really, who wouldn’t!!!) or asking people what great food finds they … [Read more...]
