Everything but the…

First off if you are not loving this Ben and Jerry’s week I’m not sure we can be friends. :) Second if you haven’t seen what the others are doing you are missing out big time. I’m so making Shelly’s What a Cluster Bars for the hockey team and Kristan’s Cherry Garcia Cake is a thing of beauty (I almost wouldn’t want to cut into it…almost). So when I got to pick my flavors I knew Phish Food obviously but didn’t know what I would do with that (clearly I figured that out) but my other flavor of Everything But The… I knew right away I wanted to do a layer cake. Here’s my random thoughts on today’s concoction: 1. I always like the idea of a layer cake until I am actually having to make the layer cake. I only remember this while in the middle of making the cake. I think this is what my friends are talking about when they see a baby and want one. :) 2. This cake became a religious experience for me as I am not sure I have ever prayed to God so much in a small … [Read more...]

Sounds Phishy…..

So back in early April Kristan, Shelly, and Bridget declared it candy bar week and created treats in honor of their favorite candy bars. I thought that sounded so fun. I mean we all know I have a candy addiction/un-natural obsession. This time around however Shelly and Kristan went with a Ben and Jerry’s Theme Week, which is equally as fun so much so that I had to get in on the action! Be sure to see what Shelly, Kristan, Julie, and Heather did with their flavors this coming week! As for me, my favorite flavor of Ben and Jerry’s is Chubby Hubby. But I’ve already made several things with that flavor profile, see here, here, and here. So I decided to go with Phish Food. If you don’t know the flavor it’s chocolate ice cream with marshmallow swirls, caramel swirls and fudge fish. Things I learned while making this: 1. I never realized that ice cream was named after the band Phish. Mostly because I didn’t listen to their music and because I usually bought the ice cream … [Read more...]

Bloggeritis….

I’m not in school. I haven’t been for a while now. For a while I was a school junkie. I went all the time. I went straight until I turned 31 and moved to WA State and the UW didn’t have the program I was in the middle of. And so I stopped. It’s funny because it didn’t seem like it at the time as it was just what I did, be the perpetual student, collecting degrees (that clearly I do so much with)but wow do I have a lot of schooling. When I had to go to jury duty and they had me fill out the form it asked how many years had a gone to school. 24. That’s a long time. That’s a long time especially to end up as a food blogger. :P Eight years of running this blog is rapidly approaching. Eight years. I don’t know if it’s because it’s been that long or because Seattle has looked like this as of late: But this girl has a giant case of senioritis except the blog version. I have bloggeritis. It’s a thing I swear. Now unlike senioritis I don’t have it because the … [Read more...]

Tart–y…

First off congrats to Heather (of Kitchen Concoctions) who is the winner of the tart pans. She has already been contacted and the pans are on their way Heather. Sorry I was behind on that as what I thought was allergies was really a cold. I’ll be announcing the winner for the Harry and David giveaway this weekend. I went to a blogger event awhile back and they had these yummy salted caramel tarts (and since I was giving away tart pans I had tarts on the mind) that looked quite simple to make. I asked who the cater was and looked them up when I got home. I about died when I saw on their website that they charged $9 a tart for the kind I had. Nine dollars? Really. I made 6 of these for less than that. Well that’s a lie because I used Fran’s Sea Salt Chocolates and those are a bit pricey but I already had them and if I didn’t I probably wouldn’t have added them. I actually did a really good job of recreating them. I think theirs had more salt but the look is about the same. … [Read more...]
