Double Trouble…

Life is beyond busy as of late. I’m kind of scatterbrained a bit trying to get it all done. Case in point, my recent Amazon.com purchase. Now I don’t buy cookbooks very often anymore. I have to really, really want it before I fork over the money as I no longer have a monthly cookbook budget like I used to (yes, I really used to have one). But I was given a gift card and went looking for cookbooks. I will admit that I am not impressed with most of the cookbooks currently out. I was supposed to receive a copy of SprinkleBakes: Dessert Recipes to Inspire Your Inner Artist but still haven’t gotten that. I did get a copy of Savory Sweet Life: 100 Simply Delicious Recipes for Every Family Occasion which I love and will tell you about at another time. But over all I’m not loving and or needing any cookbook out there right now. Too many single subject books which I am not that big of a fan of to be honest. Not to say that there are not some good ones, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at … [Read more...]

Food is not the enemy…

While on Facebook (my personal page) someone was talking about should they make cookies or not and I of course said go for it. She is going through her weight loss journey (she is doing fantastic) and all the people piped up that she would be ruining all her hard work. It’s a cookie people. A cookie. I suggested to her something that I did when I was on WW and worked for WW which was to make ice box cookies. Slice off two cookies and put the dough in the freezer….really does help with portion control. You can get to a point in your weight loss where you become obsessed. To this day without thinking I know the exact amount of jelly beans, pretzel sticks, etc I ate just out of old habit. I always stop at 35 Jelly Bellys because that was how many you got. And I can tell you how many WW points almost anything is (on the old plan mind you). But that was my life. Panic if I couldn’t get to the gym that day. Hating myself for going over in my points. Upset if I ate perfect all week … [Read more...]

It’s Valentine’s Day. If you have someone in your life celebrate by helping out your local florist or chocolatier. If you don’t have anyone in your life celebrate by helping out your local liquor store or bar. :) You may be thinking, oh it’s just a cookie, but it’s not. This cookie had all the people who ate it asking what on earth was in them and did I have anymore. These come from Not Without Salt and the very adorable Ashley who runs that site. Ashley is kind of my blog crush having worked with Sherry Yard (my pastry crush) at Spago…yeah, that Spago. She brought cookies to a meet and greet for the great Helen of Tartlette. She like I often do had made a basic recipe and then just thrown in things she had in the pantry. She had cardamom in hers…I can’t afford that right now. But she also had dried cherries, espresso, chocolate, and a little sea salt on top. Oh my. I loved them like crazy. I wanted the recipe but she didn’t really have one which I actually … [Read more...]

The good life…

I love me some BBC America (I'm a Top Gear junkie...though I could care less about cars) and recently started watching a new show Jamie's American Road Trip which stars Jamie Oliver. I can personally take or leave him but I like the Layover (Anthony Bourdain) and thought I would give it a go. Wow, what a humbling night that lead to. He had gone to NY but not in the way that normal shows go. He wasn't highlighting restaurants for you to go to when you are in town, he was highlighting the food that influences the city by the people that live there, the immigrants. Specifically he was looking for underground food, "restaurants" that were in people's homes that health code probably would crap bricks over. He featured a man named George...and that's when my life looked a whole lot amazing and a whole lot selfish. George, who was originally an illegal alien (no I'm not wanting to get political and discuss immigration) who eventually became an legal citizen of the US, but for many years … [Read more...]
