Filling my time….

September is in full swing now and there is no looking back. While our weather is pushing for a little Indian Summer action it can’t fool me, I know that Fall is on its way. This is the time of year when my soul awakens and comes alive. Leaves will rustle under my feet. All my cute coats get pulled out of the closet. The chill in the air in the morning. The trips to the pumpkin patch. Hot chocolate. Hot cider. Hot tea. Warm blankets. Snuggly fiancé’s and pups. All good, all good. And of course all the Fall baking. I’ve worked out a little system of sorts in order to get to bake and while it takes three times as long right now I’m not doing a whole lot. There isn’t much on day time or night time TV for the matter. I’ve watched way too many movies. Including such winners as the North Shore (which ran at like 3am) and Road House (which I couldn’t make it through). I’ve watched Tombstone four times now because they keep showing it. :)I tried doing Twitter for a while, … [Read more...]

They say that comparison is a joy thief and whoever “they” are certainly got that right. Comparison is what makes women/men hate their bodies, where they live, what car they drive, what shoe is on their foot, etc. And it makes the food blogger get down on their blog. There have been quite a few what I will call old school food bloggers (meaning we have been around awhile) feeling not so great about their blogs or their traffic…or in my case how many people comment. Lots of people have food blogs. I mean LOTS. In just shy of two months this blog will be turning 7. Seven years of my life writing a blog about food, hockey, and sitting around in my sweatpants (they are really nice sweatpants in my defense). It makes me question at what point do I stop blogging? And it causes me to ask the question why did I start blogging in the first place? I started blogging because I was bored at home and was married to a picky eater and needed a creative outlet. Those reasons aren’t there … [Read more...]

Some time in my late 20’s someone wrote a book called Letters From a Nut. It was a funny book where I guy basically wrote fake letters to places just to mess with them. In the spirit of the book I decided I would do one of my own. I wrote to one of the nicer Scottsdale resorts asking if they had recovered my missing tooth. I went in to great embarrassing detail about how I had lost it during rough sex and then proceed to explain just what the tooth looked like. I sent the letter to a friend who lived out of state to send it to them so that the post mark matched the address I gave. While they of course did not find the tooth they did send me a free night’s stay at one of their hotels. I of course paid that forward to a teacher that no one really liked because I figured that the coupon was somehow marked and I just pictured the staff laughing hysterical after the couple went up to their room. Now before you think I’m totally horrible, she had a very nice time she said. She said … [Read more...]

Summer is a season…

Dear Seattle, I still love you. I realize that I am one of the few that does but want you to know that. Please ignore all the people whining that they are not getting a summer. They are confused. Summer is not a weather pattern, but a season this year starting June 21st and lasting until September 23rd. So we are getting a summer, some of us understand this. Those of us who understand this also don’t complain about it, because as far as I know, no one can change the weather. You have whatever weather you are feeling Seattle. Maybe you recently broke up with someone and a little gray and rain are what is getting you through the day. Dear fellow Seattleites, Please stop actually praying for sunshine. Of all the things that are going on in the world, the weather seems like the most frivolous of things to worry about. If you are saying that you only get two months of good weather and you feel you are being robbed, other parts of the country are quite warm. Take a vacation. Or move. … [Read more...]
