A tale of two cupcakes…

We have a cupcake place not too far from me that has very pretty cupcakes. Very, very pretty cupcakes. And very dry, not so great, pretty cupcakes. I have no idea how these people stay in business other than the cardinal rule of location, location, location. I know people who have had their cupcakes and say they aren’t good, so it’s not just me. Yet oddly enough they go back. And when I ask why they say, well its right there and they look so cute is the response I get. We have become a society of what is convenient and what looks good over what tastes good and what is worth it. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some pretty cupcake cakes that taste pretty freaking awesome….Cupcake Royal makes an awesome strawberry flavor that only comes out one month a year that is swoon worthy. But for the most part I find the good ol’ cupcakes I make at home to be significantly better than what you find out there. My friends tell me all the time when they bite into one how much better … [Read more...]

What not to do camping…

Today we will discuss why camping in the desert last minute is never a good idea. I was fresh out of college and madly in love with my college sweetheart. We had both graduated from college and we both still living at home which made for spending what one might call quality time ;) a little on the hard (no pun intended) side. We brought a couple sleeping bags, some food, beer, and some toilet paper and headed out into the desert in the … [Read more...]

You take the high road…

…and well, I’ll take the low road. Sometimes it’s necessary in life to take the high road. Bite your tongue. I know some people say you don’t feel better telling someone off, I beg to differ. :P I loved telling the trainer off at the gym. I loved when Uncle Buck gave the principal a quarter and told her what to do with it. And I LOVE when Juno’s step mom goes off on the ultrasound technician (for the record I am not in favor of 16 year olds being with child, but it’s not my place to judge…and it was just a really good movie. :) ) I considered not taking a photo of an Oreo. Ohhh, for about 3 seconds. I mean seriously, how could I not? First off, just want to say thanks for the support. I’ve been getting lots of nice comments and email! I can assure you all that this is not upsetting me, just amusing me. You can’t teach junior high for all those years and run a blog for 5 ½ years without having thick skin. Not saying that words can’t hurt me, just saying that … [Read more...]
