Valentine Quick Fix….

My uncle’s advice to me when I was in college and in love was to go on a road trip that was more than 8 hours in a car and that will tell you if you are compatible with someone or not. It’s actually a really good indicator he is right…so is spending 5 straight days with someone in a city you’ve never been too…and a 6 ½ hour flight home when you are both tired. When you can spend 5 days with someone and enjoy them the whole time and not at some point wish they would go away…that’s a good indicator. The good: I came from barely making it into my Fantasy Hockey Playoffs to winning the whole darn thing. Which may or may not involve winning some money. Which if you live in the Seattle area try and get your hands on some Odin Brewing Company beer. You can check out where to get it here. And to make them even more awesome…they make a bacon beer. Um yeah you know that is beyond awesome. I appear through obsessive vacuuming and cleaning to have rid my place of carpet beetles. I every … [Read more...]

No need to study, I’m going to the NHL…

Parent teacher conferences are always a treat. And I mean that in the most sarcastic way possible. It’s not that I don’t enjoy meeting the parents, I do, and it is quite the window into the student’s life. But, most of the parents who show up are the parent of your kids who are performing well and you really don’t need much to say to them other than I really like your kid, they are doing well. And every now and then if they are too quiet you say you wish they would participate more in class. But my favorite of all the parents who do show up are those of students who are smart enough, but are performing badly because they are going to become a professional athlete. If you are a teacher of any grade above 5th grade you are probably smiling along with this. These are the parents that tell you that their kid couldn’t do the work (not because it was too hard) but because he had practice or was doing extra workouts so that he could become the next big thing in whatever sport. So … [Read more...]
