Tart–y…

First off congrats to Heather (of Kitchen Concoctions) who is the winner of the tart pans. She has already been contacted and the pans are on their way Heather. Sorry I was behind on that as what I thought was allergies was really a cold. I’ll be announcing the winner for the Harry and David giveaway this weekend. I went to a blogger event awhile back and they had these yummy salted caramel tarts (and since I was giving away tart pans I had tarts on the mind) that looked quite simple to make. I asked who the cater was and looked them up when I got home. I about died when I saw on their website that they charged $9 a tart for the kind I had. Nine dollars? Really. I made 6 of these for less than that. Well that’s a lie because I used Fran’s Sea Salt Chocolates and those are a bit pricey but I already had them and if I didn’t I probably wouldn’t have added them. I actually did a really good job of recreating them. I think theirs had more salt but the look is about the same. … [Read more...]

Cheesecake, eh?

When my brother was in high school he worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken as it was called back then (you know it as the oh so hip and cool KFC now). Every night he worked he would come home smelling like chicken grease. So much so that after two years of working there he kind of couldn’t eat chicken anymore. So when I went to work in a bakery and they said what would you like to work on? I said cheesecake. I had this great idea that cheesecake (which I loved so much) would become my fried chicken and I would stop wanting to eat it so much. Yeah, so that didn’t work so much. In fact all it did was make me much better at making cheesecake. And I got in charge of making the flavor of the month cheesecake. The pumpkin swirl was one of my first. I highlighted it when this blog first started and thought I would update it a bit with some salted caramel. Last week we got on the subject of the Cheesecake Factory and then the mini Candy Corn Cheesecake Bites I had made at JV Soccer last … [Read more...]

Chocolate or Bacon that is the question….

First off I want to give a big thank you to those who donated so far to this week’s unexciting but needed telethon (don’t worry I am stopping any and all bugging on Saturday and won’t ask for a year). :) I know a lot of you don’t believe me but I truly mean it when I say that I appreciate any amount you give. The dollar donations are just as meaningful as any larger amount. There are more than enough times in my life where a dollar was a precious thing and I get it…especially the single moms/dads and starving students out there. As well as anyone who has been hit hard with the economy. We were having a discussion on my FB page the other day about if you had to be allergic to either chocolate or bacon which and therefore could never have it again, which would you chose? BTW- if you are not a fan of the FB page you are missing out on life shattering discussions such as these. :P Most people said they couldn’t give up chocolate. I couldn’t give up bacon. Milk chocolate is … [Read more...]

Interrogation week…

Chocolate Banana Mini Cupcakes with Fudgy Salted Caramel Frosting

I must have missed the memo that said it was email Peabody questions week. Holy cow. I am used to getting quite a bit of email but this week must have been REALLY slow at people’s work. None of them really hate mail either (so refreshing :P ) but some definitely quirky ones. So let’s answer a few shall we: We will start with my favorite question which won’t be addressed but was too interesting not to post: “I was just wondering if you were getting laid yet? If not, my brother’s roommate is a super nice guy with a good job. He loves the food I make for them from your website and says he finds you attractive. We live in the Seattle area. If you are interested, I can give you his info”. Wow. That is all. “What is your biggest pet peeve?” Well that’s kind of hard to say as it really changes daily depending on my mood. But since it’s the beginning of the year I have to say all the low carb people. I realize you lose weight doing it. I watch many a friend … [Read more...]
