Valentine Quick Fix….

My uncle’s advice to me when I was in college and in love was to go on a road trip that was more than 8 hours in a car and that will tell you if you are compatible with someone or not. It’s actually a really good indicator he is right…so is spending 5 straight days with someone in a city you’ve never been too…and a 6 ½ hour flight home when you are both tired. When you can spend 5 days with someone and enjoy them the whole time and not at some point wish they would go away…that’s a good indicator. In fact you leave the vacation wishing you had more days together…and we’ve spent the last 4 days discussing how we miss not spending all day together (feel free to vomit at this point). Being in mushy minded mode has reminded me that Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. I’m not the biggest fan of this day as I feel men get screwed but since I have a valentine I will be doing something. In other good news I normally get my dieting readers back at that point as well. … [Read more...]

Mmmmm….Donuts (well sort of)…

Every year for my birthday I start my day off with a sprinkled donut, I have since I was allowed to eat donuts. Except this year I didn’t. For the first time ever I just really didn’t want one. I know, what the heck is wrong with me? Well, a lot of stuff, but the lack of donut wanting is disturbing all the same. No, instead I mostly wanted fried rice, which I didn’t get as I was playing hockey. But I did get it on 4th of July. :) I also haven’t had the overwhelming desire to bake either. Yikes! Today the weather at 1:30pm was 57F where I live. The weather was screaming bake and I was just like ugh. BUT I knew I had to , I just had no inspiration whatsoever. Until I was on Pinterest and saw a cake which I didn’t make, but it got me looking around the person’s website and I found a strawberry doughnut cake. It was too cute and reminded me about my birthday donut that I never got to eat! This cake taste nothing like a donut, so if you are expecting that, get it out of … [Read more...]

Alternative lifestyle…

I like to stick strictly to the: don’t give advice unless asked and really wish more people would follow this policy in life. I often offend some of my fellow hockey players because they love to tell you how to play (not my current team) and I usually told them to F-off always followed up with Jesus loves you for good measure. I often confuse them because I will ask advice from players on my team. They players whom I want to learn to skate like. So because they see me ask other players they assume I want their advice as well, they are never happy with my honest answer of I don’t want advice from you because I don’t want to skate like you. Men don’t do well with a bruised ego. Recently I have been contemplating something. I made a statement about this to a few people. And in return they basically started listing pros and cons to what I was contemplating. In to which I politely told them I don’t remember following up with, “and what do you think about this”? When did … [Read more...]

Vacation, all I ever wanted…

The first year we moved to Washington State I just would be in the car looking up at the lush green trees and I just kept waiting for someone to tell me that my vacation was over and that it was time to go back to Phoenix. While some may complain about the rain, I usually embrace it (though now that I am growing a home farm this summer, I am hoping for a little more sun than what I usually do). Without the rain, we wouldn’t be the Emerald city. We would be the brown sky, brown ground that I moved away from. Since we do get so much rain, it’s almost a celebration each time the sun comes out. I often tell people who complain that if they sun was out all the time around here, number one; no one would get anything done. And number two; it wouldn’t be nearly as special as everyone treats it around here. To me the sun is just the sun but to others it seems like a beacon of hope some days. Friday and Saturday were like that. I missed out on Friday as I was playing a little playoff … [Read more...]
