Everything but the…

First off if you are not loving this Ben and Jerry’s week I’m not sure we can be friends. :) Second if you haven’t seen what the others are doing you are missing out big time. I’m so making Shelly’s What a Cluster Bars for the hockey team and Kristan’s Cherry Garcia Cake is a thing of beauty (I almost wouldn’t want to cut into it…almost). So when I got to pick my flavors I knew Phish Food obviously but didn’t know what I would do with that (clearly I figured that out) but my other flavor of Everything But The… I knew right away I wanted to do a layer cake. Here’s my random thoughts on today’s concoction: 1. I always like the idea of a layer cake until I am actually having to make the layer cake. I only remember this while in the middle of making the cake. I think this is what my friends are talking about when they see a baby and want one. :) 2. This cake became a religious experience for me as I am not sure I have ever prayed to God so much in a small … [Read more...]

Running on empty…

It’s a known fact I don’t run and am not a fan of it as a general rule. I own a bumper sticker that reads “0.0 I don’t run”. I’ve done the 5k and 10k thing and even a triathlon back when I was 31 because a friend thought it would be a fun thing to do (she was wrong). My point is I can run…I choose not to. I bring this up because you may recall my special friend who went to lunch with me last year and started with “remember when you used to be in shape”. For the record she has gained some of that weight back. Just saying. :P Anyway weight comes and goes and I don’t care about people’s shapes or sizes. Aside from her being the food police when you go out to eat with her (she sells diet supplements and always wants you to buy them from her) she LOVES to tell me how in shape she is because she runs. She does a 5k at least once a month if not more. She wasn’t really believing me when I said I can run I choose not to. She took it upon herself to “challenge” … [Read more...]

We all know that I love Pinterest. I still to this day thank/curse Kristen(Dine and Dish)for introducing it to me. While it might be a time suck it is a constant source of inspiration of all things not just baking/cooking. I almost (and I use that term loosely) want to clean and organize after I am on Pinterest…almost. :P I also love it of course because it brings people to my site and I always love gaining new readers! One thing I am always interested in on Pinterest is what things do I bake/make are popular on Pinterest and it usually surprises me…big time. One thing were these muffins. Now these are not like a Way Back Wednesday, these are like a redo Tuesday. :) So many people had been pinning them that I decided to remake them…as these bad boys were originally posted six years ago…yep...SIX! They say that they average blog reader only stays with a blog about a year and a half. I know that I have some long time readers but I have to remember that the majority of you are … [Read more...]

A Career in Food…

Back in the day people went to culinary school for one thing, to become a chef and then go work in a restaurant with the hopes of opening your own one day. But now days there are many avenues you can go in the food industry. And if that is your hope, then I have a book for you. Some people think there is money in food blogging, I can assure you that is not the route to go. I personally lose money every month on this blog. It cost more to run it than the revenue I make. Which back when I was married was fine because the income wasn’t needed, but now has me seriously wondering how long I can continue to do this. My point is don’t start a food blog thinking you are going to make money and get a book deal. I didn’t start this blog for that. But there are other avenues that you can do, and even better that you can do part time while you get your feet wet so to speak. Starting a Part-time Food Business by Jennifer Lewis shows you how to do just that. The book features real life … [Read more...]
