Summer is a season…

Dear Seattle,
I still love you. I realize that I am one of the few that does but want you to know that. Please ignore all the people whining that they are not getting a summer. They are confused. Summer is not a weather pattern, but a season this year starting June 21st and lasting until September 23rd. So we are getting a summer, some of us understand this. Those of us who understand this also don’t complain about it, because as far as I know, no one can change the weather. You have whatever weather you are feeling Seattle. Maybe you recently broke up with someone and a little gray and rain are what is getting you through the day.

Dear fellow Seattleites,

Please stop actually praying for sunshine. Of all the things that are going on in the world, the weather seems like the most frivolous of things to worry about. If you are saying that you only get two months of good weather and you feel you are being robbed, other parts of the country are quite warm. Take a vacation. Or move. If the weather is so bad to you that you have to waste your time praying to the sweet baby Jesus like Ricky Bobby (“Dear Lord Baby Jesus, I want to thank you for this wonderful meal, my two beautiful sons, Walker, Texas Ranger, and my Red-Hot Smokin’ Wife, Carley”) maybe you should seriously re-evaluate your living situation. Plus it might help clear up traffic with fewer people around. Also Seattleites did you ever just think that Mother Nature is keeping it cold because she doesn’t want to see your stark white bodies laying out on the beach wearing socks?

Hugs,

Peabody

Needless to say it is actually quite warm elsewhere (and we are supposed to have a sunny weekend (those prayer chains are working) so I thought I would go with a no bake dessert for the rest of the people sweating it out but still wanting dessert. These were spotted on the evil Pinterest and I knew that Nutella plus s’mores ingredients couldn’t be bad. I am correct. These are pretty darn awesome!

S’More Nutella Crunch Bars

1 stick unsalted butter

8 ounces semisweet chocolate, broken into pieces

3 tablespoons nutella

¼ cup light corn syrup

4 graham crackers, crushed into small pieces

2 cups mini-marshmallows

Melt the butter, chocolate, nutella and corn syrup together in a heavy bottom saucepan. Swirl in the mini-marshmallows and graham crackers. Spread the mixture in a 9×9 pan and smooth the top. Place the pan in the freezer until it is completely solid. Cut into small squares and serve.

  1. It’s mad hot here – like, not even funny. I envy people in cold climates.

I NEED THOSE BARS!! And Suave Slav is obsessed with Nutella so… they’re perfect :)

  2. yum! also, i am addicted to pinterest now b/c of you, and have spread this infection to at least 20 of my friends…

  3. Hilarious. Sounds like you’re getting the weather we had last year. I don’t mind most of the time, so know I’d probably do just fine in Seattle. I have to practice loving San Diego on a regular basis. We’re heavy on the sun and although I appreciate it sometimes, variety is great. You got those s’mores to go?

  4. Kristina says:

Dear Seattle: I love you too! You are wise enough to keep 100 degrees far far away from me, and I am grateful. You also look awesome on cloudy days, kinda like an Emerald City (even though most people don’t notice b/c they are boo-hooing in their coffee.)

  5. Kristina says:

Oh, and I will be making these awesome treats ASAP!

  6. ROFLMAO! Love the letter. But what’s wrong with my white body and socks? It just shows how long I’ve been a staunch Seattleite…

  7. Seriously is there not one person on the plant that doesn’t love Nutella or S’mores? This is the perfect combination!

PS Where I live we haven’t had a drop of rain since October of last year and we are currently on day 29 of 100+ temperatures. Maybe Seattle and Texas can switch weather for a day? Just sayin’!

  8. Mmmm, these look good! They remind me of a dessert my mom used to make, except it had peanuts instead of graham crackers. I’ll trade a few of your cool days for the scorchers we have here from about June-November!

  9. Actually just took a vacation from TX heat and went TO Seattle. Delightful

  10. These look amazing! I would make them, but I think they’d melt. We’ll be experiencing a nice chilly front next week. It will get down to 89. I may have to break out a blanket…. ;)

I love Seattle and wish I could move there.

  11. The sun hasn’t been kind to us here for almost 3 months. Harsh and strong, and all the grass are almost dead.

  12. In Ontario we love to complain about the weather. It’s either too cold, hot, rainy, windy, etc.. As with a lot of places it’s been unusually hot and humid here for the last week or so and it’s the number one story every night on the news. Personally though, I could not live in a place that doesn’t have four seasons distinguished with differing weather. But that’s me :) , I take the weather as it comes.
And though I’m not a person that could ever put Nutella on toast, I could definitely spread it on some graham crackers :) .

  13. Dear Peabody,

Can you please send this to Vancouverites as well? Might help as people are more grumpy than usual ordering their $7 coffee from Starbucks while wearing their socks and sandals.

    Thanks
    Mis-Cakes

  14. Thank you! You were right on today, I live in the Seattle area and I am a full time student during the school year, and summer is my time to relax! The more rain the eaiser it is for me to have an excuse to lay on the couch and watch tv!

  15. Yeah, its hot here but I really don’t mind. I work in a climate controlled building where I freeze to death half the day so when I go outside its a welcome feeling. One of my co-workers jaw dropped when I admitted to just putting the windows down in my car instead of putting the air on. I’m in NY but feel like I’m in Florida. I like that actually!

These look really fudgy and sinful – I’m going to pin this myself because I feel the need to make these sometime soon – maybe for next weekend’s races! :)

  16. I’m pretty sure those would not last a second at any party!

  17. Yes, it has been stiffling here. It’s been in the high 90s for a while. I miss the 60-70 degree weather ;-;, and the rain we got. It rained like non-stop for 2 weeks and now its just sun and heat 24/7. At least you are lucky and getting some rain.

And those s’more no bake things look so incredibly delicious! Mmmm, nutella.

  18. It was 102 here yesterday, with little relief in sight ( and by “here” I mean the northeast).
Since today is my office picnic, I thought I would use a previous Peabody winner and make the evil rice krispie treats with nutella. There was no way I was going to fire up the oven. Those treats never fail to awe and amaze. When people say “What is in these things, they’re addictive!” I simply tell them “It’s crack.” Enjoy your weekend, whatever weather you may have.

  19. These look SO good and easy! I think I might have to make them and it’s not even that hot where I am. Darn it.

  20. They certainly sound awesome! And I wish I lived somewhere that wasn’t sweltering…

  21. Those look so good!

I’m from Seattle-ish and I’m perfectly happy with our weather. It’s nice to be able to turn on the oven without worrying about it.

  22. Oh shit, I have every single ingredient… THIS CANNOT END WELL! (Well, it will end well for my tastebuds, but not my belly rolls.)
